Yes, she is very long in her body, and has a very long tail.

When our last cat was dying, I declaimed loudly that I did not want to get any new kittens, in the fear that they would out live us (we are 77, and all of our prior cats lived to be 18-20). Most of our near-by relatives are allergic to cats, and the ones which are not are just out of college, and busy. Ha! By the evening of the day she died, we had accumulated another kitten. Her name is Trixie. However, lately two of our not-allergic-to-cats great nephews have gotten jobs, and their own places, after graduating from college. I found out at a recent family party at our house that both of them have adopted kittens! (They are brothers who grew up with cats). So, I feel much better now about finding a care taker for her if we need to in the future.

Re jumping: some cats have a weakness at the base of their ribcage where the ribs meet their spine. We built a simple wooden ladder out of 2x4's so our cats could access the cat door that is where a windowpane would be as part of our passive solar porch ( the windows are 16 over 16s paired up and ten of the pairs. The cats learn fast how to use the ladder and the cat door, and we had to move the ladder because a possum learned how to use it.

That cat door is four feet above ground level. Some cats can jump that high and some can't.

The cat door is also a source of amusement as cats have their own version of "king of the hill".

Sheila - she already has sort of a ramp to get up to the bed - I put a low Chinese table with a pretty carved Chinese box on top of it at the foot of our bed years ago for one of our elderly cats. Trixie uses it, and has no trouble getting up and down from the bed. What has happened, however, is that she likes to roll around. No problem when she "flops" in front of us and rolls around on the floor to get tummy scratches like a dog, but it was when she was doing it on the edge of the bed that she fell off. She does not always keep track of where her body is. The bed is not very tall, and there is a carpet, so nothing hurt except, of course, her dignity, and we always pretend with her that she did it on purpose.

stillanntn - cat doors are indeed funny. When we moved into our house, my DH built a cat tunnel/door straight through the kitchen wall into the glassed in back porch (where there is an elaborate cat climbing thing with boxes and hammocks to sleep in, etc, a coved space for the litter box, and zillions of windows to look out of. Of course, Trixie's favorite place to lie I is on top of the upside down fish tank I use to root cuttings. When we had multiple cats, sometimes one of them would sit on the porch side of the tunnel and pounce on whoever came through the tunnel, which has a flap on either side of it. When we first introduced Trixie to the tunnel, she was very reluctant to use it, but has gotten mostly over that. I thought she was picking up the memory of the ambushes, and thought someone might pounce on her.
