Pictures for dining area

Hello, I have attached pictures of my dining room that is opened to the kitchen . I want to add some pictures but not sure if I should do one big picture on the long wall, which measure 11 ft. or if I should do 2 or 3 medium sizes. I centered the table and the rug with the shorter wall on the opposite wall. I would also like to do something in the area on each side of the windows. Should I add something on each side of the mirror?

The kitchen has white glazed cabinets with Calacatta Elysio counter tops. I would like to know the what size art to use and what color frames would work best and any other suggestions or recommendation. Thank you so much for your input and kindness.

I think this room already has a beautiful classic foundation, so I’d keep the updates simple and balanced rather than filling every empty wall.

For the 11-ft wall, I’d choose one larger statement piece around 60–72 inches wide. It will feel more intentional and less busy than several small pieces. If you prefer a gallery look, three coordinated vertical pieces around 20 × 28 inches each would also work well.

For the areas beside the windows, I’d keep things lighter — a pair of narrow botanical prints or tall greenery would add balance without competing with the windows.

I wouldn’t add too much around the mirror either. A pair of small sconces or narrow framed pieces is enough; leaving some negative space will make the room feel more elegant.

Since you already have white glazed cabinetry and Calacatta marble, I’d use antique brass/warm gold, medium natural wood, or a very thin black frame. Artwork with warm neutrals, muted blue-gray, soft olive, taupe, and touches of brown would tie everything together beautifully.

The furnishings are decidely French Provincial.

I'd recommend drapery panels for the windows.

I thing a selection of decorative plates maybe combined with a mirror or tapestry would look good on your wall. Work on a collection of items that work together.

I'd make it a bit more casual with framed poster style prints. Since it's right off the kitchen

I'd find a new home for the mirror, it's a lot of glare.

^^^ Lyn is correct - I'd re-home the mirror to another location. The frame has a pretty shape - however, due it being white, it really adds nothing to the space. Plus, it doesn't reflect something pretty either.

You have large spaces to fill - you either need to find an appropriately sized large piece of art OR use a grouping. Three nice pieces would be a good idea.

I also think that on the other wall that Beverly's idea re: using decorative plates to make a wall feature would work well with you French Provincial style.

Pretty windows! i think a lighting fixture dropped down to about 30” above the table would make it a lot cozier, i’d also add a live tree or palm to bring some life & texture to the space

Sorry, no help on the picture layout -- but this thread reminded me that my grandmother used to say that every dining room IS REQUIRED to have a painting of a ship. Don't know the origin of that superstition.

The rug is too small and I think better with no rug . Remove the mirror and then 2 pieces of art one on the large wall and one on the smaller or some botanicla prints in a group on the large wall. No fan in a DR or kitchen . A nice crystal chandelier would be perfect but then the same for a pendant above the island or just pot light . The table does not look to be able to expand often so put the extra chairs in a closet then a nice live plant if you have the space .

If…table could be turned, a sideboard would be useful, create interest and ground the room.

On opposite wall, you could tape out large art sizes (horizontally) and see what you prefer. Suggest not cluttering up the walls, as less will be more.

Nothing next to the windows, but suggest adding roman blinds. If open to replacing the fan, a chandelier will have a huge impact.

I'd actually use the long wall for a set of three framed artworks rather than one oversized piece. Three 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in) pieces, evenly spaced, would create a strong focal point while still feeling balanced with the length of the wall.

I'd keep the artwork cohesive rather than identical - similar tones or a related series would work beautifully. For the frames, I'd go with slim white or off-white to keep things light and cohesive with your white cabinetry, trim and mirror, letting the art itself carry the room.

I wouldn't add anything beside the mirror. There's already plenty of architectural detail there, so giving it some breathing room will keep the dining area elegant rather than busy.
