Thinking of doing something like that with a wood and iron bed.

It seems like a lot of work to change..I would sell if I could figure a price for it. King size with two night stands. Any suggestions?

Urban has alot to do w/ Bedding. Have you considered it from ZGallerie on that existing bed? Some mirrored nightstands w/ some sleek lamps?

It would be easier and cost about the same to make a simple upholstered headboard and buy a basic bed frame. Attach the headboard directly to the wall or add legs and attach to frame. Pretty bed though!

It would maybe be easier i guess. My husband might go for a "makeover" but I think he doesn't want to sell this bed - it was expensive and I think he thought it was for life!

i have seen a quilted ,home made sewn one that pops over the metal frame,it looked great ,was inexpensive to make and washable too

Have you thought about getting 2 large pieces of foam with something stiff the same size. Put on either side of headboard with the stiffer piece in the front, like making a sandwich. You can then cover with fabric and "Tuft it " with buttons. Or make them look like brass or metal trim for a more masculine look. It sounds corny, but if you get a sewing or designing friend to help, you can figure it out a head of time. I have a metal canopy bed that I removed the foot board and canopy rails ( I used those in my garden for a makeshift trellis last year). I look at the black metal and envision covering it in this fashion myself. The other thing I would suggest is regarding that door behind your bed. If it is a storage room that you don't need often. I would hang a long curtain behind your bed to cover it. Put an opening in it for the door and access to the keypad. You could try that before doing the headboard and see if the room softens up enough first.

In the mean time you can try just throwing a thick bedspread over the headboard to get the feel of having a full fabric look behind you.

The sandwich idea had occurred to me. I guess maybe I need a local carpenter/ handyman to take a look since I don't have the skills or tools to even tuft or sew, let alone saw.

Ok why is bed in front of a door? You could build a box that fits over iron headboard. If bed has to stay there make it tall enough to hide this fact. Then cover with batting and a fabric. That can be stapled on. Add a bed skirt to hide legs. Use a color in your bedding with lots of pillows. Bigger chest type end tables. Tall big lamps color in base. Is this only wall for bed?

Do dark wood on night stands yours are to small, you have room use whole wall.

Or you can get rid of bed.buy a frame for bed any bed store or mattress stores sell, not expensive. Then just buy a heard board . Much less work and would look better. But until you can move bed to another wall don't think it will look right. You could put drapes across whole wall floor to ceiling. That would hide the door and look nice go white. Your comforter could work, add a yellow bed skirt. And more yellow pillows to bed. Lamps in yellow base with white shades.

Cut the wood/ particle board to the shape you need to fit the frame and extend over by an inch. Sandwich the wood over your iron bed. Observe where the metal is located and Mark the wood where you need to place the bolts. Drill the holes. Secure the wood front and back with nuts and bolts. Cover with foam, then fabric and staple-

The links by 'Erica' are great! Re: the iron bed ... I think I would figure out the cost divided by the years you've had the bed frame. Then present to hubby. He may be ok with the fact that you actually got your money's worth. If in fact that is the case? LOL

If you are near a Costco, the adjustable (any size) bed frame that they carry is under $40. Almost everywhere they are about $60 - $80. Then decide if you want a headboard.

Thanks. We have a high quality bed at the moment, and comfort is important, so I wouldn't want to get a really cheap bed frame.

The frame is all metal and very strong. Bars across to hold the box springs. I have it, it's just like all the ones in all the stores that sell mattresses.

Erica Garza, I hate to contradict you in light of the position you were taking to aid the OP but the romantic bed you posted is indeed a tufted upholstered headboard, one which appears to be leather or a faux leather but it is also trimmed out in what appears to be a painted wood. Otherwise your point is taken. @Susanna Thomas. Your iron bed is an attractive bed and with the right bedding and nightstands with beautiful lamps could be really lovely. In fact I've held onto a magazine photo for years of a black iron bed in a beautiful bright apple green room with fresh white bedding and set into the corner of the room, with a beautiful tall lush green tree behind it. The lights were wall sconces and night tables were two very small identical round tables one on each side. I can see that in your room. (If you need a new mattress that's another story. A good one will cost way more than an upholstered headboard and if you need one, your husband should be able to agree with you because you both probably wake up cranky and with aches and pains. With the new mattress then you get to have whatever headboard you'd like with it. Good luck to you and sweet dreams!

If you want to change the bed frame I agree with everyone else (except those that told you to live with it) Sell the one you have and find, or make, one you like. The metal bed frames have a completely different feel in the room, so go for the cozy upholstered headboard.
Another option is to make an easy slipcover for your head and foot boards. Doesn't damage the bed at all but makes it cozier:

I just love that bed! Do you have storage? If you do, I would hold onto this bed. It looks like heirloom quality. Styles and taste change over time. I have a feeling that you, or your children will want to use this bed again someday. I wouldn't risk scratching it up trying to reinvent it. Headboards and metal bed frames aren't that expensive. But, I would wait and finish everything else in your remodel / redecorating of the room and see if you still feel the same way. Also, once everything else is done, it may be easier for your husband to understand the look you want and have an easier time making the shift. Most guys just don't have vision...and don't understand what the heck we are talking about when it comes to redecorating.
