Wall colour?

I want to have a feature wall with a colour, I was thinking the wall on the left in the first picture, any colour suggestions?

If I'm seeing your colours correctly on screen, a silvery blue taken from the cushions on the sofa would look good. You have a pretty room.

A bright orange or red would be something to consider.

Thanks for the advice, what do you think about this wallpaper at the back of the room as we have lime accents on the cushions, coasters tablecloth etc? Or do you think silver/grey would be better?

Hi. Hmmm. Don't think so. But that suggests you want something more dramatic than tasteful blue, which Dytecture got right, and I think 7j Design is right about using the end wall. How would you feel about something like this, below -- please forgive me for removing your sconce and star, it wasn't because they shouldn't be there, just because it would take me a lot more time on my creaky software to get that highlight right. So it's a bit rough and ready. I put a touch of orange on the sofa, because I think it would zing against this wall. Again, I would have done more, but for time. Ditto lime green. Definite zing.

This colour was taken from your cushions. Alternative, the purple from your rug. More zing.

I think an orange shade would look good on that end wall...it will bring the orange from your kitchen area down to that end. Lime green would work too.

I'll grab a little time later -- early morning here -- if I can to do an orange and a lime green wall for you. It doesn't take long once the first one is done.

Looking at this, I am not sure you need a feature wall rather than a feature column. The position has moved away from the kitchen to your living area - which I think is good. However, the dark space will enclose the living room. If you want a shot of colour, try painting a long panel of colour about where the radiator is straight up to the ceiling. This will allow a feature, you can put a large painting to the side of it, but it defines a clear space and a "zone" - This is where you rug and 'living' space stops.

Here are the two walls. Again, a bit rough, but just to give an impression.

Thanks Rina, not sure how I feel! I was ways aiming for a modem Scandinavian and slight industrial feel. I thought a pop of bright colour would be the finishing touch but i'm really not sure now!

Scandinavian design doesn't usually have such bright colours (or any colours). Having a "pop of colour" doesn't mean it needs to be vibrant. You could have a more muted colour. If you want an accent wall I suggest the one where the couch is. It would flow much better with the room than having the end wall painted (it looks out of place). Keeping in line with your purple rug, you could choose a purple with a grey undertone. This shade would tie in the rug and the dining chairs. It would also compliment the couch nicely.

My thoughts were Scandinavian with a modern twist! My worry about the wall behind the sofa would be that it would run along a large percentage of the room - being a small room do you not think it would make the room feel smaller?

I am coming round to tones of grey! But would the space feel a little boring?

in that case you can choose a more vibrant colour. :)
Painting that wall wouldn't make the room seem smaller. On the contrary, it would create flow. Painting the end wall would be like a visual stop sign and wouldn't tie anything together. But you live in the space so have a better feel for the room.

My first thought was a beautiful orange. The wall with the tv and kitchen art.

Thanks for the help! It's a tricky decision! I understand your thinking about the end wall - makes sense! Hmmm a lot to think about!

Orange is a great colour but would it clash a bit with the rug etc?
Hi Phil -- I didn't like the effect of the really bright colours on the end wall. Now I'm thinking you could consider a black-and-white geometric wallpaper there (if your other walls are white, it's hard to tell). Then be bold with your sofa cushions -- solid orange, lime if you want it, purple, and an off-white or two. Still pressed for time, so I haven't been successful with a wallpaper hunt for you. But they must be out there.

Orange and purple is a combination from the birth of the modern Scandinavian style I think you have in mind -- the era that gave birth to Marimekko. It's not a clash, it's the zing I mentioned earlier.

Purple and orange is great together! I agree not to paint the end wall as the accent wall.

Cole & Son are great - the one on the left also comes in a harlequin colour pattern. Very nice.

I actually like the tree wallpaper!

How nice to wake up to those two gorgeous wallpapers. Decor warning: the patchwork jobs below are way out of scale, I'm sure, and make the papers look far more prominent than they would in reality. So they are just to help you get the feeling of how they fit into the room. I'm undecided; I think I'm leaning towards the diamonds which seem to pull everything together better -- the diagonals, and possibly the darker blacks tying in with the sofa. But I'm by no means sure. I think the wallpaper idea would work equally well, with a different effect, on one of the long walls, if that's what you think you'd like.

    This is fun!

Which position do you prefer, the end wall or this wall? It would run half the length of the room as the wall comes out from behind the tv - so it would stop before it reaches the tv?

Hard to say. A feature wall should be your wow factor when you walk into the room. So at the end. However, I think it would be too much. Perhaps the wall you have shown it works with your kitchen and would be a pretty feature when dining. I will abstain from this vote and let others chirp in as I am not hard and fast on one or the other.
