I would also should a small glass tile. A plain color the blends into the backsplash would look great. Your granite is busy so keeping a more classic and timeless approach would be the best idea. Good luck.

Thanks Boerne Kitchens, Design Connection and Maguire for your creative suggestions. I will go with the glass tile; now the dilemma is what color. Fusion granite is a beautiful newer type of granite. The photo did not do justice to it. It looks gray but really it has domineering hues of subdued greens and blues. Also waves of rust colors. These new pictures that I am attaching also don't pick the most domineering hues of subdued green. May be I will go with 3 x 6 or 3 x 8 a very light shade of green.
I am very pleased with your suggestion since the dark cherry of the cabinets is my husband' traditional taste. The glass tile will lend it a more modern look as well as soften the darkness of cherry cabinets. Also the granite is very beautiful in person and the glass tiles will accentuate it. It's a busy granite with rusts, browns, grays, blues, golds and greens but I don't know that I'd say green is a dominate color. Your cabinets are very red, I'd suggest something more neutral. Best to you.

Thanks Maguire, for some reason my ipad camera is not capturing the most domineering hues of the suttle green. Subdued green is pretty much the main color. I may stick with the neutral color. I was initially thinking of using a light shade of travertine for backsplash but now can't wait to purchase the glass tiles.

I can see what you mean about the green in it. If you select some greens, test also a very gray brown green neutral - otherwie, maguire is trying to say that green will jump to the eye and make the cherry cabinets look even more red. If you can find a neutral that matches the background / feels like the background of this granite / very quiet - you will have the most success. Something off-white in the pale khaki direction is going to let the granite shine.

Also, it is unusual to keep a granite backsplash and have tile, so you may decide to use yours some other way and have it pulled out / put tile everywhere that isn't behind the stove - make floating shelves of the backsplash in an adjacent space . . .perhaps a cheese board, or have it cut into coasters . . . all possibiitie

I chose solid glass panels in cream in my kitchen as backsplash. I find it a perfect low maintenance choice - no grouts, etc. Glass panels are offered in different colours.

Libradesigneye, you and maguire are right and that is where I am heading. A store some 15 miles away has glass tiles and I am wanting to purchase the cream glass tile. They have a 3 x 9 available, I just have to go check that it is not shiny. Initially I was going to do cream travertine but I cannot wait to get some glass tiles.
