Omg! Your after space looks great! Something I noticed, the mirror above the sofa looks a bit small for the wall. Maybe expand it, or have something bigger?

Vast improvement! You have a good eye. I would declutter the decorations a bit starting with the vases on the mantle and all the little dustcatchers on the shelves. They are too small to see and so just look like clutter. You need an editing eye. There's too much stuff there. Also I'd add sconces or art on either side of the mirror and lose the white lamp.

Nice job! love the built in book shelves and agree, some trim would finish them off. Also agree, too much in bookshelves, and remember to keep heavier things towards the bottom, like larger books/groupings, and other larger items. Group similar objects - groups of three is the magic number or five - odd numbers. If you remove the clock over the fireplace and leave your twigs/vases and make it an odd number - 5 would be good. You could try setting your mirror on the shelf - don't hang it, and set it horizontal (opposite of how it is hung on the wall. Please post additional pics as you make some changes. One more thing, if you didn't do it already, please REMOVE the ceiling fan and replace it with a lovely chandelier or pendant, or light of your choice - but not too small, and then put a dimmer on it. Enjoy!

Actually, something in black would draw from your rug. Rule is if you have black in a room, there should be more more than one item. A couple pillows with some black. In fact, paint your mirror frame black!

I don't know if you want a more contemporary or traditional "feel", here are some ideas, these prints, pillows and bowl (for the coffee table) are all found at Pier One...... I went with blue because of your sofa, but they have many other selections. I would go with either a wide piece or several pieces over the sofa, for balance. Love the clock over the fireplace.....I think you have done a great job on your own so far!

Lots of good comments here. You've done a good job. Regarding over the sofa... a large painting, ideally, but not necessarily, unframed - gallery canvas 2" deep would work very well. Much better than the size of the mirror there now. As some have pointed out, less is more in a space like yours. You don't have to find an original painting. These days you can get prints on stretched canvas that are very good quality. Sometimes called Giclee's. No matter the name, one with tones you are already using, plus a good accent color would work well. One good accent color would be a strong coral. But there are others depending upon your own personal feel. Contrast is the only mandate there. Keep up the good work.

Great job! doesn't even seem like the same room! I totally agree that coral accents would give you even more of a WOW look, and you might consider adding one or two black lamp(s), or painting the bottoms of the two white lamps to add some black to the room. That would tie in the black stripes in the rug. I did that in my living room and it really made a difference in the over all look of the room.

very nicely done. I love the blue couch, but I don't think the mirror enhances it. Might I suggest a large piece of art work.

Very nice transformation. Good work. I would suggest a few more changes: I would loose the powder blue paint on the walls and go with a more neutral color. Within the same pallet of colours, find a darker shade for the back of the shelves. Declutter the shelves - too many items. I would bring back the original sofa, together with the ottoman and arrange it with the new covered chairs. You have a small space to work with, so the original sofa will fit better than the bulky blue sofa. Add accent color with cushions, art work on the wall instead of the mirror. I think it will look classier and cozier with my suggested changes...

You did a great job. I agree with the other commenters on the scale of the original sofa would be better and a larger picture with a pop of color over the sofa. Try the white lamp in between the two chairs. Bring the floor lamp to the opposite end of the sofa sitting behind the table you are going to add. If possible, add some lighted branches or small lamp in the bookshelf area or on the mantel, then your light would be balanced around the room. A chandelier would be an amazing addition.

Love the slipcovers on the chairs.

I love your makeover very much. I agree that you need to edit the accessories. I had that problem (excess is never enough) but was told to remove half of the accessories and if what's left still fills the space divide in half again. The best to you.

You did well! The only change I'd advise would be to use the built-ins for decor, not storage. Right now they are overloaded and busy with nothing to interest and draw the eye. Try putting all the items into warm and cool categories, so you can change it all out twice a year. Then style the shelves with 1/3 hardback books, 1/3 large decor items and 1/3 open space.

Measure the running length of your shelves and then divide the total by three. ie. if you have 15 feet of shelves one third of that or five feet should be empty, one third or five feet should be books and the remaining one third of that should be stuff. So you would measure five running feet of books and place them on five feet of shelf space, then measure out five feet of stuff and place that on shelves. That should leave your with five feet of space. Basically what I am saying is leave one third of your space empty what ever that number should be. It is challenging to have everything on a table and having to select what looks good and what is readable. hahaha!

I think you need something big over the sofa, maybe an unframed nature scene and target, home depot, lowes, and wal mart have really fun pieces at great prices. Should take up about 2/3 of length of sofa and should be less than 12 inches above the sofa back.

Find some floor lamps a pair for either side of the chairs. I would do a black iron look at that would pull something from your cocktail table and the items would relate to each other and look balanced in the room. Lastly what ever your art work has in dominant bright color I would spray paint lamps the same color and place on either end of sofa on matching end tables. White would look nice, be a softer country look, and relate to fireplace.

I adore your 'twigs' on the fireplace and think they are unique and fun. Keep them there and try the clock on the wall behind the chairs.

A pair of aqua pillows like the wall color would look great on the white chairs; small kidney shaped rectangular ones in down fill for 'cush'. I see you have pillows on the chairs just not sure of color. And I think one black and white zebra or check pillow would look great in the room for some more structure and to match the very cool cocktail table. Your pillows look a little tired.

I think it looks really nice... Maybe adding some trim (wood) to the gaps between the fireplace and shelves would make it look more professionally finished... ... Plus you'll save yourself from trying to clean between the small gaps there ;)
