Maybe something like these for the drapes in the piano room. Great contrast to the red walls. Brings a softness and femininity to the room if use trunks and leather.

You might like this over the sofa.


Maybe low bookcases or ..... 'wallpaper' bookcases and books on each side of the sofa. I would use the wallpaper below wainscott level approx. 28" - 30". Apply wallpaper away from the adjacent walls and not overlapping the sofa size. Place a shallow molding at the top to mimic the bookcase top. Frame out the sides with a simple molding to act as the wood bookcase side trim. Paint the wood the color in the wallpaper shelving. If you want more 3D dimension, you can add some wood on top of the wallpaper on the shelving detail. But then you will be covering some of those red walls?

You've been cooking with gas, LB! But I do think the red walls should be left to rule. Furniture yes, wallpaper no. I love that Zanzibar table and am rather partial to the London end table and Bristol trunk. Great finds.

If you're keeping the rug, pale seablue and gold blinds would look lovely. Or curtains in gold-blue taft.
Otherwise an ink/indigo blue (towards violet) patterned rug, with some grey blue, chocolate and black accents maybe.
Some medium colors, bronze for example, to match the floor.
And that book wallpaper looks fun, but be careful with it.

I love the colors you have there, just need to balance them out. You could introduce medium grey as a medium color, it won't interfere with what you've got.

Another thought to work with the bookcase wallpaper on each side of sofa at wainscott height. Place two cigar box collages above the bookcase wallpaper. There are more interesting boxes than in this photo.

I was going to maybe use this painting in my dining room but maybe this piano room would be a better fit? Not positive. I love the painting and the colors work in both rooms. Just not sure how I feel about chairs and couches covering pictures part way...opinions? If you haven't read this thread, most of the items in the room are changing. The rug, lamp, chair, chandi. The paint color and the piano and piano mirror are the only things staying.

Rachel-this is your house and you should feel good about it. Are you now doubting yourself because earlier you sound pretty sure. Do the kids play in the rooms.

I don't think over that couch would be the ideal location, but it could go to one side of it, over by the piano ( replacing the mirror) or possibly behind the chair.

It won't fit behind the chair. If I put it behind the piano it cuts off a larger chunk of the painting. No, kids don't play in that room.

Hi Rachel. About having part of the painting obscured by the sofa, I'd say if it works do it. I once had a mentor in another creative field who said learn the rules then break them. But in this case I wouldn't do it because it looks like an attempt at censorship, covering the naughty bits. It's a stunner of a painting, though, and I would love the reference in this room to the -- ahem -- gentlemen's clubs of the Victorian era where the behaviour was anything but gentlemanly.

It would work to the side of the sofa, if you were willing to trade the sconces. You mentioned replacing the couch, though, and if you like the painting in this room, it would also go very well with a chaise, or lower backed sofa.

I love it in the dining. It is not that close to the table edge. A little more breathing room. Over the sofa in the cigar room seems to be 'trying to make it work', although very appropriate for the room. I love it, you have to keep it somewhere! I really don't think it is that revealing.

You could place it on the left side of the sofa, moved down lower, but would have to balance the visual weight on the right side of the sofa. Wondering if it might work well on a black easle angled in the left corner near the sofa?

Dark gray lounger like Studio 10001 has suggested. The rug is beautiful but seems too small for what you're trying to accomplish. You might be able to layer the rug on top of another larger rug like the one below but darker. Add a black shade to the floor lamp and a medium gray to the table lamp.

You'll need to get your other colors right or the wine walls will look 80's. The light loveseat isn't working with the wall color. Maybe add a dark aubergine throw to the gray sofa lounger.

Replace the mirror with the nude next to the piano.

Don't put the sconces on each side of a picture.

I'd suggest a bigger couch and a plant

What about placing a 24-inch Geometric Deco Gemstone Tiffany-inspired floor lamp next to the couch and a 20-inch Geometric Deco Gemstone Tiffany-inspired table lamp on the side table next to the chair? Use "daylight" bulbs to show the "original" color/atmosphere when light goes through the brighter-colored gemstone shade or use "bright white" light bulbs to show "lightly orange" color/atmosphere when light goes through the gemstone shade.

If you prefer a bit simple but still in Tiffany-style, try Circle of Love design with custom-selected color scheme on gemstones. You can also use this Circle of Love as flush-mounted ceiling lamp but make sure do not drop down from ceiling too much.

And how about cigar label tiles on tumbled marble tiles as coasters.. or token gifts for those cigar/ wine tasting parties.

I wanted to thank everyone for all your wonderful suggestions and this fun discussion from last year. Since this I have worked on the room just a little, mostly been focused on my living room but now I'm back to this room again. It's come a long way but still has a way to go. I still want to change the couch, thinking about dark brown leather with rolled arms. Chandelier with a black paper round shade around it. Two animal print arm chairs (like the ones posted in this thread), an updated picture for the frame (Some sort of impressionistic art, maybe one of the ballet pictures by Degas?). I need a new rug, bigger. Not sure of the style yet, still can't find anything. I found some orientals with red and black that would go nice but I'm more of a transitional rug type person more then a oriental type so that is my issue. I also am thinking of painting the trim the hall color, as suggested, I added some Aqua accents but I'm giving those a second thought now and thinking maybe I should do a chocolate brown or royal blue, stick to some deeper accent colors, as suggested.

I found these two bookcases for $20 each at an estate sale, go me, love them! I want to change the draw pulls of course but can't seem to pick those either. My husband and I found this huge antiqued gold frame which we loved and picked up for $200 in a antique type store, I will try and find a print that fits perfectly into it. I ended up going with very large, oil rubbed bronze finials and 2" fluted curtain rods and burgundy velvet drapes, which I love. Room looks much better I think but still needs a lot of work!

Need rug, picture, accessory and chandelier advice. I will post some pics of some things I have found.
