I would like to have a luxurious, spacious home on a five to ten acre place on the shore of Lake Eufaula her in OK. My husband is not a world traveler type and he would actually spend all the time I wanted to spend there; not to mention most of my friends and family would love to visit. I would want enough room for stables, and a boat slip would be a must have.

Judy, you are right. I forgot to mention the pool:) All the properties that I look at (just to daydream) of the Provence properties, they all have a pool:)

I would choose Nice, France or somewhere in the Virgin Island (think Richard Branson). In a realistic world, I would like to end up back in San Diego. The tropical climate just calls out to me.

Printesa, I have been lucky enough to have spent a week in Provence in a lovely house with a pool.
Not a huge house but very charming and some lavender plants on the patio.
A nearby road was lined with symmetrical trees, absolutely lovely and we had perfect weather.

We have also rented a beautiful large villa in Tuscany on 56 acres with amazing views. There were 4 couples and we rented 2 cars. Best trip ever, can't even begin to tell you how many bottles of wine were consumed! LOL
anyway, my point is if you can't afford to own, you might be able to have the dream for a week!
We have found that house renting beats a hotel almost all the time.

Call me boring, but a beach house in Kona, Hawaii. (Or Hilo).

Ocean front, Maui, Hawaii is my dream second home.

All these ideas are making me want to take a vacation.

Theres no place like a second home you can move around the world in, to any beach, any sun rise or sun set, any island, any gunk hole, port in a storm - or not - whenever you want. There's this lovely little anchorage off to starboard, just inside the reef entry at Bora Bora.....

Judy, your vacation sounds amazing! I am planning on having a vacation in Provence and Tuscany. We had one in Nice and Paris this year, but it had to be at a hotel. It was nice, but I am still looking forward for a more picturesque view:)

Either in the country/mountains with a stream or pond and lots of trees or in the Caribbean with a long white beach to ourselves. Either way would be ideal.

I've dreamed of living many different places, but it always comes back to Provence, France, in a picturesque small town, in a small villa with great views and lots of character (and decent heating and plumbing, of course!) The recent article about the 800 yr old reno was my dream.

Reading the posts, Provence is a popular choice! Who knew! Do you suppose this is a "generational" thing? We'll all meet up there, folks!

I'd be happiest with a beach house in the Northeast US that I could visit every weekend. Second choice would be a beach house in Oregon.

Large modern home on the mediteranean coast of Kooshadasi, Turkey or in Cyprus or Greece.

Printesa, if you have a chance to rent a home, I highly recommend it, really adds to the authentic feeling of being a local and having private outdoor and lounging space is the best.
In Paris we have always stayed in a hotel, but we have rented homes in Napa, Santa Fe, San Fran and Vegas.
The Tuscany one beat them all and after splitting the expense with other couples was a very reasonable price.

I would love to purchase an old villa in southern Italy on the Amalfi Coast, with a water view so I can sit on the balcony at night and watch the boats. My husband and I visited this area, and spent a week in a hotel with a similar balcony. Every morning the boats left the mainland and went west toward Capri, and every night the boats returned after dark to the mainland. We would count how many boats we could see while we enjoyed the beautiful evening.

Our second home is a gorgeous living quarter horse trailer (outfitted with scandia down comforter and upscale cowboy decor & rope trim). We can take our favorite companions anywhere we want to go to camp and ride in beautiful places.... roughin it, not so much. I've been at sea, and now seeing what is missed by most... off the beaten path.

Thanks Judy! I start missing the summer:) I've been to Europe twice this summer, with only 10 days in between trips and I said that I won't do that again (with the kids as well). Now, looking at these beautiful villas, I am retracting my words:)

First, I'd like a private jet to get to my houses. No point in having one if you have to deal with the misery of commercial airlines.

I've daydreamed about a vineyard in Bulgaria. But, what I really want (if there's a jet to take me there with no hassle) is a place where it's sunny most of the time. Egypt would have been ideal, if the politics hadn't gone to hell. An old house on the N. peninsula of Tunisia?
If we could ignore reality, a house on a cliff between Cap Haitien and Port de Paix, Haiti with coffee, mango and cocoa trees in the yard. Oh, and the road between O'Cap and P-de-P needs to be vastly improved. Not to mention a competent Gov't and an economy which looks nothing like the current economy of Haiti.

I've gone so far in my looking for property on the Amalfi Coast of Italy that I regularly get real estate updates from that area - it's really fun to see what is available, even if I can't actually buy now.

I'd love to have a small cabin in the mountains; Big masonry fireplace, open kitchen, dining room and living room. Stone raised garden beds full of vegetables and herbs behind the kitchen. Tall-fenced-in yard with gate opening up to trails in the woods behind the house.

Since this is fantasy, it'd be great to have a spring running through the property that opens up to a swimming hole. A few acres of rolling pasture- just for the potential of it. Solar panels would be great too.

If we all bought one, we could do exchanges!

I grew up on the Atlantic Ocean with a nice beach, so a beach house is not at all appealing to me, but we love to kayak and canoe and I love swimming in a lake, so I would love a lake front second home in New England. We have been to Maine a lot as my husband lived there for years before moving back to NY.

Would own a small place near a university for my children to use.

One place only???? I need a city for culture, a place in the Mountains for skiing and hiking, a place by the beach for sun and sand and tropics, an escape hideaway far from the madding crowd.... :-)

The Amalfi Coast would be my pick too! I have visited there twice, and it is just so beautiful, and so full of amazing places to visit. I saw photos of Gore Vidal's villa there once, in Architectural Digest, and his place was like my dream come true!

One of those big, beautiful homes in The Hampton's. Did a home exchange there a couple of years ago. Beautiful open spaces, gardens, vineyards, shopping, nice people. All I could want in a dream home.

I am lucky to already have something similar. In NIce, on the French Riviera, where I am originally from. One day, it will be my permanent retreat (I can't wait).

I am sleeping in mine tonight, a 130 year old colonial casita that I slightly remodeled.

I forgot to mention it is in Mazatlan, Mexico in the El Centro Colonial area. A lovely community that still offers very inexpensive property. And yes, that is a signed Rufino Tamayo between the chairs.

The ocean just beyond my door in Hawaii with a bit of land.

I would LOVE a few acres and a cozy home on a small lake in rustic Northern Ontario..with lots of pine tree and granite out croppings, and the cool dark lake to relax by everyday!!
