I have a lovely camel back sofa that I bought 15ish years ago. Since than, the sofa has been through many kids and pets AND my taste has changed to a cleaner and more contemporary look. (All that house porn I watch on HGTV has worn off on me.)

I want to reupholster the sofa to update its look. At the same time, I have two super comfortable arm chairs that I want reupholster to coordinate. I want to do a neutral solid (or monochromatic pattern) in the sofa and patterns on the arm chairs. The sofa and arm chairs will be facing each other with a square or round ottoman in the center for addl seating.

I have attached a picture of the sofa and one armchair. Disregard the wall color. I am repainting - maybe a nice griege. New carpet is coming next week. It's a very neutral light taupe.

My questions are:

Thoughts on a color for the sofa? For the chairs? (Chair photo has a sample I like on it.)

What about fabric? I have been looking at a nubby chennille but havent run across the right color yet. I was thinking leather but my upholsterer talked me out of it because we have cats. We still have the kids and the pets so we need something that will stand up to them.

The house is a Dutch colonial. Rooms have casement windows with mullions, crown molding. It's a traditional looking house from the outside. Inside, I am looking for cleaner and more contemporary. I do want to keep these items because they are so comfy, I just need a fresher look.
