I like the slate color shown above. I have also seen a similar look with the color being more blue with white trim. It's very nice too. If you go with the dark gray, think about something a bit different for your door, like a turquoise or dark plum you mentioned.

I love your house, the white is beautiful. How about using a different color trim, maybe a soft light yellow.

I Love your white house with grey porch. I might paint the door with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite with Annie Sloan Clear Wax, add real wood shutters painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Aubusson Blue (deep grey blue) and Annie Sloan Clear Wax, and give the porch and steps a fresh coat of Sherwin Williams Marine Paint in French Grey. Last, I would refresh the landscaping and add hardscaping. I would remove the hanging plants on the porch. Lastly, I would have a custom-made copper light fixture made by Bevolo in New Orleans.

Love Ami's suggestion also. If you're wanting a real change into a bright sunny home, consider these colors. A home in our neighborhood recently went from the blue to these colors. Very happy colors and with dark purple crepe myrtles planted in front, the house is quite eye catching!

You can still have hanging plants. Think about using big fluffy ferns next year.

I like the plum idea as an accent-a very understated shade, of course. I think it would work fine that that shade of blue.

I think the blue/gray with cream and brown accents is probably the best choose and I think adding stone to the columns would be beautiful.

hgtvandme, I've been playing around with an exterior color scheme for you. Taking your love of plum and dislike of cream into consideration. I have a quick question for you. Do either of these plum colors come close to what you are envisioning as an accent color?

Here's a pic of a house with the plum accents... Unfortunately the contrast of the plum with the white is a bit stark and it calls for the cream as a contrast. But maybe an off-white/cream with the plum accent could look great...

Dark blue body w/grey trim and grey/blue accent on columns and red door. See Benjamin Moore's "Washington blue" palette combo w/Pikes Peak grey, and Silver Chain and Cornwallis red.

Hi Amy--I do like that 2nd plum color. Can I somehow put that in as window trim? I need a 3rd color to jazz it up a little. Would black be too severe? I saw something on Houzz that looked nice (thanks to somebody's link!) :)

Here are some exterior paint schemes to consider, the greens or a grey would work well with a plum and a cream color :-)

I think it is absolutely charming! ( It reminds me of my first bungalow). I would keep the white, and select a trim color ( Not tan or grey) maybe a plum would be cute with another accent color (green)?

You could definitely use plum on the window trim, as in the photo we posted above. As far as a third color, greens or grays would work, as Stamps suggested.

I wouldn't go as stark as using black, but a dark charcoal gray or a dark espresso brown might work with the same effect. See the photos below, and imagine your plum trim.

You have a lovely home. I like a shade of yellow, but not too bright. Looks like your door is gray? As for the trim try matching the color of the brick walkway.

I love older homes painted in yellow. Not bright.

This is unrelated to your paint color but, if the picture is not an optical illusion, it looks like your front door is not centered on the front of the house. You might consider having your outdoor light that you have now, moved to the right side of your door. I would get a larger fixture as well. It would help to center it over the steps. And paint the white strip under the porch on the first step the same color as the rest of the steps. Paint the door the same color as the trim around the door. It will give more continuity. You have a beautiful home!

we are in the same place right now, I decided this morning on a med. gray with a med to dark charcoal gray with white accents and red doors. According to our realtor gray is the new neutral!

Anyone have any suggestions on a new front door? Contrary to the phot, it's actually centered (I take bad photos) but it's one of those in stock doors with the fan window in a semi circle at he top. Hate this door. I want something nicer but also need to keep in mind that I need privacy and security. So limited glass would be ideal.

3 or 6 pane craftsman style all the way!

That's what I'm thinking too. Should I paint the door or keep the wood color?

The plum would look great! I can't find a pic w/ plum but here are a couple painted craftsman style doors I think really work.

hgtvandme, going out on a limb I suspect that the original doorway used to be wider than it currently is. Also the trim around the door doesn't match window trim and appears to stop too far short of the ceiling. If you have vinyl siding the change may well have taken place at the same time. Maybe you have an older and wider door frame underneath the siding that is screaming to be set free....

One of my neighbors went with the gray color scheme that we had finally landed on so right now the house is still white :( Put painting on hold for now but we did get the craftsman door and it looks great! Thanks for checking :)
