Does this work?

Please let me know if you think the door in the corner works? The couch is not my fav but must stay. I'm trying to update the room so it's not so "Old Lady". Should I paint the door or what? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you!

I would mount it to the wall to the right of the sofa. If you want the space to look less 'old lady' then you might want to reconsider the items over your sofa. I think a single large framed mirror would simplify and brighten the space, making it less fussy.

The door is adorable and should be your jump off point if you love it and want to keep it. I think it is very pretty.

The door is very much a cottage style so the first thing I would do is paint your room in a cottage blue. Slip cover the couch in white and add cool colored pillows. Your accent pieces on the wall should be rustic whites and beach theme.

You have a great, fun piece to start a new look!

Jlongo you have beautiful white wood trim in your home, put the door over the sofa instead of the pictures with the dark frames and lighten the area up. White pillows on the sofa would also lighten the room up.

If you don't want to update your floor lamp, changing the shade to a drum shape would help to modernize it.

We only see one wall, but this "old lady" thinks the color combo of wall and carpet along with sofa are not a good fit.
What does the rest of room look like?

Great advice given to change the shape of the lamp shade......you can find great ones at Target.

I was also wondering about putting the door over the couch. Would you want to take down the items there now and just prop the door on the back of the couch so we can take a look at it that way?

This is for Judy M. Here's a pic of the rest of the room.

Glad you slowed us more, nice crown molding.
Your room is very traditional and a bit formal, so I'm not sure about the addition of the door.
The curtains are heavy and I feel a lighter wall color would lift the spirit of the room.

Can the valance be removed and just have the side panels?

What a great start you have with this room!! Great armoire, good chairs and lamp table, sofa is workable and kind of fun, great old window. Just a little paint, a few updates on the inexpensive stuff, and you have an outstanding room.

My thoughts, bigger coffee table, new differently shaped lamp shades, think creatively about arranging on your walls, maybe move the sofa away from the wall if there is room.

You'll have really good people on here in a minute leading you toward "young and hip".
