Empty canvas needing some ideas- living room dining room

Hi All,

This is more of a beg than a plea for help! I recently purchased my first place and I need to do some basic design work. The good news is that walls are freshly painted white and are ready be transformed into something more interesting. I want to focus on my living room and dining room first (pictures included). I need lighting in both of these rooms and after speaking with my contractor he told me that track lighting is the way to go since the walls and ceiling are concrete. He would put up 5 1/2 crown moulding around the rooms to hide all of the wires. I was thinking of one 8ft track over the dining room table and two 8ft tracks parallel by the tv/door. Any suggestion on which lights I should use? Any other options with concrete walls/ceilings?

Also, I want to open up the left dining room wall which goes into the galley kitchen. I would add a granite counter top with stools and hang pendant lights. Any suggestions?

As for paint, I was thinking of neutral colors for the walls such as a light hazelnut that would contrast nicely with the moulding.

There is a nice big radiator which I want to find a nice wood cover (painted white) for. A nice cover can really be an accent piece for a room.

I'm open to all suggestions about layout, furniture, paint, or design. Any feedback helps! Thanks.
