Is anyone currently using an All in one washer/dryer?

I'm looking to install a washer/dryer on my 3rd floor. Since I am remodeling my bathroom, I thought this would be a very convenient feature to have seeing that my current laundry is in the basement. I've retrieved some information on this, but I'm not 100% sold. LG makes an all in one washer and dryer (3.6) and I've read that it is ventless (not quite sure how all that works but saves me money on cutting a hole in the exterior wall or roof). Also, it does not need a 220 outlet. It plugs into a regular socket. It's obviously only one unit, so it saves space..a definate plus. They one downfall I've read is that the drying time is a lot longer. Just wondering if anyone has one like this and is it worth it. I'm kind of weary of new products/technology out on the market. It costs about $1600 which is actually less than 2 units if purchased separately. I'd appreciate any information and input on this if anyone can help. Thank you :)

I have used all in one washer dryer, they are more popular outside of North America and it's true that the drying time is unreasonably long. The one major benefit is space saving, otherwise go with conventional setup.

might sound silly but what do you consider unreasonably long? Drying time is my main concern

The benefit is that you can put clothes in and go to the grocery store without having to wait and put the clothes in the dryer. The moisture is condensated outside the main tub and goes down the drain just like the washer water when drying the clothes. It is slower to dry because the dryer element is 110 instead of 220. I put one in for an elderly lady that was tired of the stairs. She liked it, but I can't remember how long the drying time is. Overall time was not "that much longer" due to the time the clothes didn't sit idol in the washer until it was gotten back to and clothes transferred to dryer.

I've used them in Europe and it seemed they took forever, as in hours. Of course, that may have been because we were anxious to get clean underwear so we could go see the sights. I imagine if you have it in your home, you will adjust. Pretty much everyone in Europe seems to have them.

I used them in (the country formerly known as) England.
The washer/drier combination machines take much smaller loads, and the price is a little high...but it depends on how many people the machine is for! I had mine when I was newly married, and it was fine for two of us.

I contemplated getting an all one but didn't for two reasons. You have to wait for the drying to finish before starting a wash load whereas with separate your next load could be starting while one finishing drying. I also thought an all in one might be more expensive to fix because it is a specialty appliance. In the past I did have a standalone dryer with a regular plug. It took about 1 1\2 hrs to dry. Even light garments took a long time. Not sure how much power that used as it was just regular current, not the 220; long time vs more current.... Maybe an electrical person could figure the price comparison.

My UK sister-in-law had one of those but she rarely used the dryer function, she either put the clothes on a line outside or over the radiators inside. Her machine took so long to run a complete cycle that you could only wash one load a day, then possibly a second at night. The washer capacity was higher than the dryer so you had to be careful not to overload the machine if you wanted to get the clothes to dry.

Doing the quick math without looking up exact model specs, the standard plug in dryer uses 1920 watts , The 30A 240V dryer uses 5760 watts. Therefore, the smaller watt dryer can take 3 times as long to dry for the same cost.

I don't know about these machines but one thing I do with my own dryer is I put a dry towel with my wet clothes in the dryer. It makes the drying cycle shorter.

I have used them before. Bosch also offers a vent-less dryer as a separate unit. The dryer condenses the moisture from the heated clothes, turns it back into liquid and pumps it out the drain.

I have the LG combo (ventless). It makes my clothes and apartment smell foul. I cannot get the foul odor out of my clothes or linens. After I bought it and realized my issue I went online to find that MANY people have the same complaint. LG won't warranty "odor issues", so I will be selling this unit on CL and buying a different brand. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! Buyer Beware!

@mrlauchlin..I went with a LG front loader washer and dryer and hooked up water lines and a vent etc.. Glad to say I did not go the ventless route(especially after your comment!) Sorry you had to go through all that! Get rid of it ASAP!;)
