PLEASE HELP! Gable Roof Trouble

Hi! We are starting the design process on the exterior of our house and need help in deciding on what to do about our Gable Roof. I would love to try to add some exterior stone under the gable if possible to give the house more of a craftsmen feel. We have already completed our detached garage, so I have attached a photo of that as well to give you an idea of the look we like and want to achieve on our home.

you know what bothers me the most here is that the gable is totally off center from the part of the house that juts out next to the door.

that's probably not something that can be changed, though.

i think you could just replicate most of the design elements from the garage, and you'd be doing well. the garage has a nice carriage house feel to it, so adding the corner mouldings and repainting the house in that nice grey would be great. and rerout that guttering so that you can add the shutter to the other side of that window. or remove the shutters entirely. the house would be very pretty without them, i think.

The gable looks naked. It might look better with some nice woodwork on it, a little window or even an extension with a front porch.

And yoboseiyo has a point with the front door issue, it does look a bit lost. Can it be switched with the window left of it or maybe an architect can make the whole roof shape look a lot better?

Neither the left side or the right side of the gable are situated in a manner to make it look like a believable part of the house. Structurally, it would be impossible to build a roof like that. This leads me to the conclusion that it was just built on top of the original straight roof by a previous owner with absolutely no design sense. Please, do not try to work around it the way it is. It will never look right. Either tear it off and start over, or build over the top of it. You can't take this mass that is out of place and make it look right by decorating and painting.

The garage looks quite Cape Cod style in the picture. Is the exterior of the garage wooden shingle or stone?
