Can you start by moving one of these chairs to the other side of the couch? They look crowded where they are currently.

In the dining room I would center the table with the green artwork. I would add a horizontally oriented mirror over the cabinet and curtains for the sliders. I would also add a rug to the living room to help cozy up the space some.

Thanks Amy. Will consider the mirror and curtains. I'd love to have a rug but my only concern is I have 2 dogs and I'm worried it would be very hard to keep it clean and hair-free. Do you think it'd be a problem?
Actually the table and the artwork are centered. It must be where I stood taking the picture. I know the chairs look very crowded but the living room is quite small I couldn't move the 2nd chair anywhere else (the door is right opposite). The only other option is to move it to a different room.

Can you put the two chairs under your stairwell, maybe with a small table and lamp? And put the cute settees where the chairs were in your living room? Not sure it will work but it looks like you have more room under the stairwell for the two large chairs.

Many of us have rugs and dogs. I've got two puppies myself :) I have to vacuum at least three times a week but the comfy feel on my feet and the ability to sit comfortably on the floor outweighs the extra cleaning imo. I would pick something with pattern and not too dark. The darker rugs tend to show more dog hair (unless you have black dogs lol)

The big chairs go with the couch so I'm afraid that won't work. I think a small table and lamp next to the settees will look great. Did you see my bird cages though? Will it be too much lighting for the stairwell? How about a painting or a wall book shelf over the settees?

Oh and I would move one of those chairs out. Do you have a home office? The extra chair would make a great reading area with an added ottoman and floor lamp or side table and lamp.

Is there a way for one of the chairs to scoot right next to the tv console? I know it will be in front of the entrance area, but there should be room to walk in behind it. Then scoot the other chair down just enough so it does not overlap the couch.

The art work over the chairs is too high and too small. The straight line emphasizes that.

Yep. Gonna print some more pictures to fill the wall over the chairs. I tried to move 1 chair right next to the TV console but the chair was too big it was right next to the door too which did not look good :(

You have corgis! Love love love them. Get yourself a Furminator if you haven't already. Yes, they really work (but brush them outside).

Your space is lovely, your furniture is great, but it's all a bit bland. There's a sameness, even with the yellow. I'd say you need a pop of something unexpected. Let's see what I can find.

Can the couch and the chairs switch places? Will the couch fit on that wall? And then can the chairs be angled a bit in the area where the couch was, to keep them from overlapping the couch and so they can comfortably watch tv?

Your pictures don't really give a good view of your room. Need pics of your sofa with wall behind and TV wall toward the left.

Don't decorate with tiny shapshots. You need some large art for over the chairs centered above them and hung low something long and not very high. Love the green picture in dining room. Size & scale are great.

There is almost nothing that can't be helped with a bit of purple and chartreuse.

Big picture frames over the chairs definitely look better! I will update you with new pictures once I get them hanged. Gonna go shop for rugs later today too.

Looking at your room again. IF it does not work to switch the chairs and the couch, how about moving the chair down so it extends past that short wall.......since the rug extends down there anyway. Then hopefully the arms of the chair and couch will be lined up instead of overlapped. Could a table and/or lamp go back in the corner now?

I will replace the wood birds with a lamp or a flower vase. Something bigger.

I think you should try contemporary rug on this floor-

Little end tables are too short. They should be even or just slightly taller or shorter than the chair or sofa arm.

quyenvu, I have bassets, but corgis are my second favorite dog. And one of my bassets is a mix; I think his other half may be corgi because he sheds great gobs of undercoat, enough to make a whole 'nother dog every couple of days.

quyenvu, I love your little birds. Try them on one of the steps behind the chairs.

And your room seriously needs color. Don't wimp out here. Start with a really raucous pillow, then move on to art and a rug. (I do think purple would look great with what you've got so far.)

quyenvu, I love all that you've done so far (the furnishings, lighting, flooring etc.). What stands out for me is that even though what you've done so far is chic and tasteful, it's as if you've created a clean pallet where artwork like yours can be made the focal point. And I love this!

Did you know that you can take an image of your own work and have a "peel & stick" mural made from it? Such murals can be applied and removed with no damage done to the existing wall. I think a large mural of your work behind the sofa (using up the entire tiered/irregular space) would create a real "wow" factor. Thanks Paula. You re right I've been very careful picking out furniture and decorations and I'm quite happy with them. I just need some more pieces that really pop, stand out, bring life to the place.

quyenvu, I like the green and blue rug you just posted. It will add a nice pop to the room and tie in nicely with the yellows you've already got. Add a few blue or teal accents and the room will rock!

I have to agree that the above rug looks like a winner.....is it the right size and accessible to try? Did you try the birds on the stair way?

If you are worried about spills and the dogs having an accident. Look for an indoor outdoor rugs. I have a restoration hardware one in my kitchen under my table. I have a five kids and in he past they were younger spilling juice. I would just take it outside hose it down and let it dry. I have had to use ivory soap on it to get carrot juice out. You cannot tell it's an indoor outdoor rug. I have had many compliments and questions like how do you keep it clean. Kid and dog friendly choices are important. I posted two frontgate has some and other websites also. I had a wool rug in my dining room and a guest spilled coffee on it and 900. and in the trash it went. I no longer serve coffee in my dining room lesson learned. Overstocks has some nice ones.

this rug is actually an indoor outdoor one from overstock.com. and it is cheap too because it's synthetic fibers not wool. do you think that will be a problem? will it be soft enough?

Do you go barefoot on the living room floor daily? Indoor/outdoor rugs will never replace that softness you may wish for, but if softness is not a problem, durability, color and size sound perfect for this room.

I love overstock, bet you got a great price! It will look fantastic. No one needs to know that it's indoor-outdoor. Use it there as long as you enjoy it and then use it somewhere else. Wait if you have not purchased it yet, don't, There are THOUSANDS of area rugs out there at a great price, don't settle for something that's not quite right. Keep looking.
