YES..definately! First of all, it is considered one of the low end product in granite, and secondly, granite as such takes a back seat these days due to the popularity of engineered quartz surfaces

Granite is moving out and quartz is moving in, however quartz is an expensive material and granite is still readily available. The trend we are seeing currently in black and white granite is actually a marble, Carrera Gold. It has a warm tone to it, even though it is quite white.

I would qualify the "granite is moving out" statement with: inexpensive, overdone granite is moving out. A beautiful, interesting slab of granite still makes a stunning, contemporary counter.

Yes, I would agree ... Luna Pearl would be an outdated choice for granite.

If you are going with a white granite, select one that is not speckled ... more solid with streaks.

Are we talking the quartz that is engineered to be same all over or the real quartz?

Thank you for your comments. I like the price of the Luna Pearl and hoped it was making a comeback! Any suggestions on countertops that are lower on the price scale, looks good with hickory flooring, and can handle the business of a family of seven? I love the look of marble but know that will not work for a kitchen. I do not want busy counters - life is busy enough with small children. Thank you!

Would a mix of butcher block and granite work? One lower priced and one higher priced, but meet overall budget?

Do you have an Ikea nearby? They have inexpensive Ceasarstone.

Napa Valley likes the quartz composite. It is durable and maintenance free. Look into Ceasar Stone, Cambria and Silestone are big seller here in Napa.
Our clients love the colors available now, many with the look of stone and granite.

Luna Pearl has always been a favorite of mine and a couple of years ago it was big with the coastal crowd in Northern Cali. Since then, granite as a whole has taken a back seat to the quartz.

Actually I agree to this completely. I have heard that it is the granite which is used to make sidewalks etc in Hong Kong, and this is one of the reasons why it considered a cheaper and lower variety of granite.

I agree with the above statement. We just put in Luna Pearl in December. I was so happy that the colors I loved were also the cheapest price. It looks gorgeous with our grey subway tile and white shake cabinets. Who cares what others say? I love it.

Well, of course, it is perfectly alright to 'like' this Colour of granite - after all, it is a variety which has been in the market since many years. And again, I will still stand by my opinion that it is a 'cheaper' variety of granite, even if other Houzzers do not agree to this. Sorry for that! We have been selling granite in the form of tiles & countertops since a couple of decades now and have quite good knowledge of granite & marble. So I will definitely use the words 'cheap' and 'granite' in the same sentence...

I like the idea of having a natural stone. I have granite and although it was my husband's choice and I was a little hesitant at first as granite can be very busy I'm very happy with it and glad we made that decision. Engineered stone is so boring. Marble is so beautiful but not very practical, so I think granite was the way to go for us. As for Luna Pearl Granite if you keep your cupboards very plain it could look very sophisticated.

Maybe lower price point is a little less tacky than "cheaper" ...

In or out...if you are staying in your home use what your love!!

I bought a house with Luna Pearl counters and natural maple cabinets. It was very beautiful. The granite pattern was more neutral as it was a smaller, all-over pattern and easy to work with. That color is one of 6-10 colors offered by new-home builders as "standard" (as opposed to upgrade), so it may make it seem that it is dated and cheaper. That is a an oversimplification. There are so many other extremely unusual granites that can cost thousands more, because they are more unique. Don't be swayed by what is in or out. Just get what you like and be confident of your decision.
I would not want to be a customer of Somiya tiles, using Luna pearl, who then reads about how dated and cheap my granite really is. I agree that there is a better way to explain the point.

Here is a photo for Luna Pearl. I honestly could care less if something is "in" or "out". I decide what is in our out in my house. I think of my aunt when I hear this discussion. She use to collect Tiffany lamps from when she was a girl. They were considered horribly out. She would buy them for a nickel sometimes a quarter and she had a barn full of them. Years later as people again had an appreciation for Tiffany she sold them and made a ton of money. If you like it and it works with your budget and your lifestyle get it. If you find a granite you love and it is inexpensive to boot that is great, go for it.

I just started looking into luna pearl because it is less expensive than other granites. I came across this kitchen that was just done in Dec. 2013 and I thought luna pearl worked really well. To me this kitchen looks classic, crisp with the white subway tiles, white cabinets and stainless appliances. Who can predict what the next kitchen cabinet color trend will be? Dark cabinets are elegant for open concept, but are too dark for my taste and galley style kitchen. I want to paint my cabinets with an upcoming finish. Is grey a good choice?

really, there is no such thing as outdated stone. If the color and texture or appearance of the stone works for your design scheme and use need then that is the right stone for you.

Who decides what is "in" or "out"? If it looks good and functions well then use it.

Granite will never go out of style as it is a natural material, natural stone, the same way wood will never get out of style. You can never have two same slabs of granite and that's just one of the many beauties this material provides. Quartz is also a great material. We can compare their price and durability, but both are high-quality materials that won't fail your expectations.

I just spent three weeks walking around stone yards admiring the granite and quartz slabs. I got estimates on several of them. Guess what I ended up choosing without knowing the prices? Yep, Luna Pearl. Why? Because I have white cabinets, with a blue island, light gray subway tiles, grey/beige walls, and the only granite that I could find to pull it all together without being overly busy was the Luna Pearl. It just works in my kitchen. I love the granite slabs with all the variation and movement but honestly wasn't sure I wanted that much going on my counters. The Luna Pearl was simple and affordable. I considered Silestone quartz (Lagoon) but it cost twice as much.

My husband is a geologist and we are choosing Luna pearl for our kitchen. Many of the 'stones' of higher price often have other materials added. Granite has smaller speckles of crystals. The bigger patterns with more movement means the crystals were melting. If the price is lower it's because so many people bought it that the price went down, and most definitely does not mean it is inferior in quality.

It looks nice in this picture! When building a home, it can be really hard to prioritize the items you want to save on and those that are splurges. Are the countertops a high priority for you or your spouse? When we built our house, my husband and I each had a few things that we really wanted to get just right...if we came to a decision where we were debating about getting a version that was cheaper or more expensive, we did try to go back to that original list and consider if that item was something we always wanted to look a certain way or if we were just getting caught up in building process. It would be easier if you could pick your favorite version of everything, but that's never easy on the budget! Good luck!

This my kitchen with Luna Pearl granite. I like how it works with black and white. It's surface doesn't show everything like a solid stone would.

Debi Noice, I was happy to hear that you went with Luna Pearl. I actually did the same...walk around granite yards for 3 days in my case. I didn't have a clue on price for any of it but brought samples home. The clear winner was Luna Pearl (aka Crystal White and Gibraltar @ Home Depot).

Our kitchen has white cabinets and gray walls. Luna Pearl works! The fabricator is coming tomorrow.

I think it depends on the space it’s put into. We have a very large and open kitchen. So it works. I’d say in bathroom, it could be a bit too much. I’m thinking it’s probably going to be one of those classic colors that everyone wants to say is becoming dated. They’ve been saying over range microwaves and stainless steel appliances are supposed to date for the past 10-15 years. Clearly they are still going strong for the general public!
