So, that would be perfect to use the pottery barn shelf. The shelf would be 1" wider than your mirror.

If you can find a table, great, but I think you will have a hard time finding something that small.

The mirror is really the star of the show here, so you want to keep your table simple.

I've always liked the Ikea Hemnes shoe cabinet but don't have anywhere for it to go in this house. There is a coat closet in the narrow hallway. I agree that finding a table that size is going to be quite challenging. I've been so focused on fixing the rug issue that I haven't searched too much for a table. The shelf is great because the floor space is free. I'm on to look at the rug options!

Can you bring your mirror to the hall, prop it on some table you have and take a photo? I think you will really like it!

I am wondering if you do not then, want to go more charcoal or black with your carpet. It would really go well with the mirror. Black will not make your front hall look smaller. What is making it look smaller is 3 different rugs in there. Chop/chop!

I really like the idea of maybe staining the railing a darker color. We wanted to stain the floors a darker color but did not have time prior to moving in last summer. I need to have a stair runner because the dog won't walk down the stairs without one and kids are loud running up and down!

The paint color in the hallway is Benjamin Moore eggshell. We could paint the back of the door black. The outside of the front door is red.

Maybe this would be a good option for a darker color in the sisal.

Mirror: It just looks perfect in that space. A console table is about 30" high, so consider hanging the shelf so that the top is about 30" off floor and the bottom of the mirror should be about 3" from the top of the table.

Rug: I really don't think the beige ones are going to look good with your mirror and shelf. I also think these lighter ones are going to be challenging with kids and dogs.

Okay, here is how it works:

-each square is 50cmx 50 cm. That is 19.685" x 19.685". Think of it as roughly 19 3/4" square.

You can cut the squares, but I think, in your case, you won't have to. Take some measurements and I can help you figure out how to best place the tiles. To also help you, you can use graph paper. If you like to do things hands-on, you can cut out a couple of squares of cardboard that are that size and work it out.

So, you said your current rug is 4x6. 48" x 72". So, I would plan for:

2 deep (39 1/2")
3 across (59.25")

You can tape is out with blue painter's tape and see how it would look.

Then, you need to think about the long portion AND how the 2 connect. My feeling, just looking is if you have 3 across the main portion and center those three, the end by the mirror will not be close enough to the wall for your liking (as it related to the long portion.) Have ai lost you yet?

But, that is no problem. You can cut a tile and make the main hall portion wider.

Make sure when you cut a tile, you put the cut portion in the center, as it will not be as perfect as the factory cut. Plus, you want it all to look symmetric.

Bottom line: you need to plan it all out. But, I can help you do this.

How wide and long is the narrow portion of the hall?

Hi! Thank you! I understand what you explained about planning the measurements. I wasn't sure how to plan for the turn into the hallway. The narrowest part of the hallway is 29.5 inches and it is 110.5 long which is measured until where the new rug would end by the mirror. I had a rug pad with almost the exact dimensions that you gave for the first part of the rug but it is about 1 inch too wide. Here is what it would look like.

Except….you also have to take into consideration the long part. So, I think the front hall part will have to be a little wider. You can achieve that by placing tiles in the center of the front hall that are cut not as wide as the others. That is, I think your goal should be one continuous straight line on the wall where the mirror is. Then, where the cutout is, you will have only one carpet tile.

If the hall is 29.5" wide, then I am thinking that you will want probably about 24" wide carpet. Or, you can attempt to achieve the same amount of exposed wood that you have in the front hall section.

As you can see, this is some work, but you will like the outcome.

You can also try the look of turning the tile 45 degrees (diamond) (If you like this style). This might be easier for you.

So I would make it a little wider in the front hall part so it extends closer to the wall with the mirror and then could go straight down the hall? If yes, then I think that would be about 4 inches. Is it okay to have more wood exposed on the other side of the stair landing?

The narrowest part of the hall is from the end of the railing to the wall. I think the hall is too narrow to expose the same amount of wood as the front entry.

I have had Flor tile carpet in our sunroom for 7 years and it has been great with pets. The best part is that you can replace a section if an elderly dog has accidents as mine did (you can also wash them).

You really almost have to map it out on graph paper and/or on your floor. It becomes sort of an interesting mathematical problem. But I love that stuff.

So, draw the dimensions of your hall floor out on graph paper and then "fill In" your tiles.

I think what you are going to have to do is this:

In the front hall part, go 2 tiles deep (front door to stairs).
But across the front hall, we had talked about 3 tiles. You will go wider than 3 tiles across. You will have to go wide enough so that less wood is exposed in the hall. See what I mean?

Remember to place any cut tiles in the middle. Don't forget to order "dots", which is what you will use to hold the tiles together. (They don't stick to your floor. They stick to the tiles. )

After thinking about your layout, I think the best look would be something like this:

-one tile down the center of your long hallway
-on each side of single tile, I would add a 3" strip on each side.

So, on the mirror side, the 3" strip would continue all the way to the door wall.
Then, on the opposite side of the front hall part, I would add another 3" strip to mirror the one on the mirror side.

Flor will precut tiles for you, but they do charge for that (I think)

Oh boy. I apologize for not noticing the doorbell speaker. It is not looking good. You could get an electrician to move it higher and ideally to center it on the doorwAy to the right.

Also it would be better if the mirror were taller. If doorbell is moved you could hang mirror higher and it might look fine.

I don't think anything is going to look good in that space with the doorbell looming and off centered.

Better to have nothing there and go with several mirrors running down the hall. You had mentioned that before. We'll you mentioned one mirror. What of you think of that ?---mirrors along the hall.

You sure could try, but I think it still will look distracting, since it is off-center.

Do you have a couple of matching mirrors you could hang in the long hall. When people walk in that is what they will see.

I think that is a good idea rather than one mirror or piece of art. Unfortunately, I don't have any matching mirrors. I can shop around to find some options!

I might get a replacement cover for the doorbell anyway just to try it bc it's bothered me since we moved in.

Okay, so if you hang something down the hall, you might consider something reflective but not a mirror per se.

Thanks! I like that idea. I like that mirror panel except I prefer black, oil rubbed bronze, or silver rather than gold. I plan to change out the gold door handles and the light fixture in the entry. I'll post any potential finds to get feedback.

33" (2 mirrors) + 5" btn mirrors+ 12.5 (24" total) on either side of mirror is total of 63".

Here is a Houzzer I helped recently and she used I think the same mirror. She went through hsn and I think they were cheaper. She used 4 and her wall was 103. So, you are sort of in between.

I know…..Jennifer's room is really transformed! I think those mirrors really helped. She is not finished. Still is looking for a rug and wants to get rid of that yellow paint. I don't blame her. I just love how they look with her buffet. Maybe you could find a buffet like hers, but really slim-line.

Hi! I received the mirrors and Flor sample. I love the Flor tile sample! I will need to call to order the dimensions that I will need for the space. The mirrors are beautiful, but the depth of them is a little too much for the narrow hallway. I'm able to use them in the dining room so it worked out. I am still looking for other mirror panels and may go with the one from pier one since it is a good size for the space. Thanks for all of the help! I will keep you updated.

Hi! Sorry it has been awhile. Here is a pic with the mirror in the entryway with the new doorbell box! It looks much, much better. I included a pic of a the mirrors in the dining room too. Please ignore the dining table. It is temporary until I get the one that has been passed down in the family, which is a dark wood so it will look better. I may post for help with getting chairs to coordinate if the originals can't be repaired. Once I get the rug in and put together in the entryway I will post more pics.

Doorbell: much better….if someday it could be moved up and centered, even better.

Yes there are only 2 mirrors hung at that end of the dining room. There is a doorway to the kitchen next to the mirrors. There are two windows at the other end of the room facing the front yard.
