Do you have a full room dedicated as a gym? Or just a small corner in your living room? Regardless, share your photos of how you stay fit at home!

Also, let us know, what was your most expensive piece of equipment added to your home gym?

My gym is on the top floor of the back of my house. It's great to see the Capitol and Washington Monument in the distance.

A very small room. 13' x 6'. It has a large exercise ball. Some weights with a small folding bench, a stepper and a doorway chinning bar with bungie cords with easy viewing at the doorway to watch TV in the family room.

I wish. I'm trying to figure out where I can stick a treadmill that won't annoy me the rest of the time or be in the way.
Pirate foxy. It doesn't matter where you stick treadmill, it will always annoy you : ) On the back of someone else's truck heading out of town is worth thinking about. My multi gadget Cardio Gym gives you biking, rowing, pulling, pushing, pressing, leg raising, lat work and, apparently, other really good stuff, all monitored and timed on its clever computer. When you're done, you simply shut the doors and it looks just like a spare refrigerator ! Super tidy.

Well, some people are lucky...I have to exercise in my living room every morning !

I've got a gym set up in the barn. I already posted photos of it recently on another featured thread. I got rid of the elliptical because I like to change my stride. Luckily, a relative gave me a barely used treadmill. I'm one of those cardio junkies who loves the treadmill and does anywhere from 6-9 miles on it depending on the routine that day. I can't take my 2 year old with me running in the cold, so the treadmill is nice. I also have a weight bench, ankle weights, hula hoops, and a bunch of other stuff. I'm not a fan of the big machines because I have friends that come over so we can workout together, and it's easier to throw in a DVD and hand out dumbbells and kettle bells rather than wait for our turn on the machine. Might be a different story if I didn't have the space. In which case that machine rosecafe has would be excellent!

I'm a Pilates & Yoga instructor, so my needs basically boil down to having a space with enough wooden floor to unroll my mat and keep some props. The space I've been using is this room in the top floor in my house. I'm nowplanning for it to double as a reading room since I these days mostly practice in the studio I'm running since September.

Mr is having a bench press and some weights set up in a home office/gym. I don't think he will use it though, it's mainly for display purposes (????)
    MEN! Ugh

    No.

I was thinking of putting in a gym but was worried it was going to be out dated soon;)

Does typing on an iPad count as exercise?
No but we had our bed custom built so we could slide a treadmill under, we find that very convenient.

There are 4 fitness facilities within a 5 block radius of my current resident so I do not YET net a home gym. However, beginning to plan for home in Vermont and their will be a complete gym so I can continue to work out 5 days a week. What surprises me about many home gyms is that when they have great views the machines are pointed inward. What a waste. I will be watching the stillness...and the wildlife...and the skies while I workout.

Yes, several pieces of equipment. We find the treadmill makes an especially good clothes rack. The Total Gym is handy to hold suitcases. Must dust frequently.

Over the years, I've added equipment to my fitness room (bedroom just under 11' x 11') including a treadmill. The room is super functional and the armoire holds tv, dumbbells, bands, running shoes, Pilates props, DVDs, etc. There is a large open space to pull out the flat bench or Pilates chair...also perfect for mat work. I only wish the room could fit a Pilates reformer. I'm still researching a foldable one that will stack against the wall. The treadmill has been my most expensive purchase, but in the future, the reformer will take the title. For those wanting to work out at home, I recommend a dedicated room or area of the basement for large pieces of fitness equipment. If space is an issue, try small fitness toys (stability ball, body bar, Bosu, resistance bands, etc.). They can be a great workout and offer tons of variety.

we have a gym at the back of our garden room ! great in the summer with the doors slide open - it's almost like exercising outside ! in fact I do my kettle bells training outside ...

My sweet Edith is my exercise buddy...we walk and walk and walk in all weather. I also do yoga on my carpeted living room floor.

I had a wonderful home gym on the lower level of my walk-out rancher with a multi-exercise Body Solid gym, weight bench, elliptical machine, treadmill and exercise mat. The room had a wonderful view over the city of Vernon during workouts but allas, it is all in storage except for the elliptical machine and the treadmill, that I managed to bring with me to my temporary digs and they are down in the rec room. Most expensive piece was the Body Solid gym but I bought all items used. I have always worked out and still do at 65 although I do more walking than running now.

We have a pull down treadmill in the kitchen eating area. Crazy I know!! It didn't fit the narrow turn down the basement stairs and was very heavy to move around.
In the end, it works for us because anywhere else and no one would use it.
My husband's old Nordic ski track became the tie rack :).

I have a small bedroom that I use as a workout room. It has space for a proform treadmill, and a proform dual purpose unit that includes recumbent bike and ellipitical (I love my workout room. I decorated with some art on the walls, a small desk and decorator pillows to add some glamour. If you are looking for quiet equipment, try proform......

Mine is combined in to my laundry room. I have a treadmill, weight bench, tv stand and a plush rug for doing floor exercises. The other half has washer, dryer, and storage area.

I have my machines in the den surrounded by my grandkids toys, which occasionally become tightly wedged underneath. On those days I get my workout moving the machines and kicking the toys out from under them..... Otherwise I enjoy watching the dog sleep while the squirrels run all over her backyard. Per my young and very fit doctor's orders I'm buying a set of free weights - small - very light weight if such a thing exists. I'll probably have to lock those in the storeroom, raise the garage door and stare at the neighbor's house while I use those. The grandkids do not yet understand the Thou Shalt Not Bonk Thy Sibling On The Head concept yet.

We actually turned half of our garage into a home gym. My truck never fit in it anyways, and didn't really have room in the house.
It has mirrors all along the walls and motivational posters. Elliptical & treadmill with a TV and DVD player. Middle area has a York Bench system, and the end by the door has actual gym floor we laid out for free weights area. This area is about 8x8 and has free weights, exercise & medicine ball, ropes, bands and boxing gloves.
    Fully equipped!

hehe...yeah, it's call yardwork, gutters to clean, walls to prime & prep...and .5 acre yard to mow. Nothing like a full day of physical labor to keep your body in shape!

Plus, I'm 3 blocks from our downtown shopping in the Historical District. Nothing but great pubs, antique shops, and cute shops with nothing but things from local artists, & festivals every couple months. I can truly walk to just about anything I need. But I do draw the line at walking home with days worth of groceries, or wood for projects from the lumber yard.
My husband says the same thing about the me, exercise and yardwork, bungalowmo but I remind him that yardwork was specifically excluded from our marriage vows. As far as walking in the direction of the antique shops, art shows, etc., he would claim that that was a very poor form of exercise... for me. Unless I left my purse at home.

Rosecafe, where did you get your multi-gadget gym? That's the most clever thing I've ever seen.

Has anyone successfully snuck a tiny 'home gym' (probably a treadmill and a small set of dumbbells) into a garage that still needs to be used for a car, in some way that keeps the gym area from feeling like a dingy depressing garage when you're in it? That's the only place I can think of right now to put a treadmill where it won't just be in the way. I'm wondering if painting the walls a cheerful color and using some carpet tiles would be enough to perk it up? I really can't lose the use of the garage for the car in the winter.

(I do walk the dog, but he's getting older so sometimes he's not up to a long walk so it's not much exercise for me.)

We are lucky to have a huge, open style basement. I finally successfully talked hubby into rewiring to allow repositioning of TV...no easy feat due to finished basement (yes, dry walled ceiling). Sad that it centers around the TV (I just can't seem to exercise beyond 20 min without distraction) but I could finally fit the elliptical, bike, weights/bench, and room for yoga/Pilates in a way that made sense. Added plus, it made us rethink the entire space, now my kids enjoy more inviting play areas. My kids are finally big enough to know better than to mess with the equipment, and I can follow my yoga/Pilates videos without craning my neck. So no excuses, I love my home basement gym!

I've had equipment since 1995. I started out with a Nordic Track ski machine. I'm on my third one now (wore the other two out). I've gone almost 32,000 miles on them. We recently converted the computer room (didn't really need it anymore since everyone uses laptops now). I've added a Nordic Track treadmill and a Tek Rod resistance weight machine and put a 40" flat screen in. The TV sets in a bookcase so it sort of looks built in.

We lived in a Manhattan highrise with a gym that we used regularly and also walked miles a day as most New Yorkers do. But we still shed 10 pounds by moving to the country where we added stairs and property maintenance to our lifestyle, without making any changes to our diet.

we are about to renovate our home, with a small (300square ft) extension, which will convert our eat in kitchen into a (small) great room (or family room, as us Aussies call it). This will result in my being able to convert our current small (100ft2) lounge room into a gym - finally meaning we can have the pilates machine, rowing machine and x-trainer accessible, and not blocking anyones view of the tv. Just counting down the days til it becomes a reality.
Smallville, it's called Cardio Gym. You'll find it by Googling that name. About $3k in Aus'. Hope you can find one : )

Before you spend too much money on fancy Gym equipment, consider my Dads physique back in 1938, ( aged 20) built using home made free weights, bars and plates cut from solid steel with a gas torch. Dads arms were bigger than his car tires ! He was a National Champ Light heavyweight lifter, sprinter Tug o War anchorman, and could pinch lift incredible weights between his index finger and thumb. Mum, now 93, never lifted anything heavier than us as kids! She never had to.

I've got a small bedroom that is working ok right now, but I've got bigger plans for the next few years as a full 1/4 of the basement will soon be converted to workout space. So stoked to get working on it this winter!!!

I agree rosecafe, my husband uses minimal small things to stay in shape and has muscles that all his co-workers say they wish they had and are half his age. He's very creative with how he uses things in the house.
I have 2 sets of free weights, a pair of leg weights & a matt for the floor. It's been a while, but I could do 80 crunches in one shot. With my feet under the tv stand for leverage.

I remember my mom, back in the 60's, laying on her back in the livingroom lifting a 2 volume book called "The Tontine". Big ol books & she had the biceps to prove it! Cost nothing but time.

We added our home gym a couple years ago:

Most expensive item was the treadmill, but we've had it for nearly 5 years -- since before we finished the space -- and have logged ~5K miles on it so far, between 4 family members.
