Dasha - I've been looking through all the options above, and my advice would be: keep it simple. The pic you posted way above (fabric with circles) is indeed lovely - but the interior has light, modernist furniture and a very simple colour scheme. You have heavy, dark leather seating, a very busy carpet, and a very busy table top (granite, is it? Hard to see from the pic). If it were me (which of course it isn't ;) ), I would simply go with one single colour, no pattern, whether you choose shutters or curtains. Just so all the patterns in the room don't start fighting each other and become overwhelming. And personally, I would simply choose white/cream - same colour as you door and/or your fireplace, as you furniture is very dark already.
But then, I'm not a designer. ;) Great that all these pros on this site put up renderings, so much easier to visualize! Thanks, all! :D

Hi Dasha, Congrats on your living room renovation ! Have you considered cordless honeycomb cellular shades ? Then you can have only the shades, no need for any curtains! For a very clean and sleek design. Just an idea. :)

If you don't want to invest in plantation shutters, then just put up window trim. The windows could stand out a little more. Love the fabric and the 4 panel. Beef up that hardware!

Des3, the only thing that is staying is the sectional. Getting a very simple, airy coffee table and a cream shag. The leather chair is going, too, and being replaced w a fabric accent chair in red.

So while the couch is heavy, I'm really trying to soften it with the curtains, rug, accent pillows and throws.

This is similar to what I'm going for. But a lighter coffee table and more pops of red/orange.

For the panels get 96 inch because they will elongate the windows. You can look back thru the postings at the difference made between panels that are even with the windows, to ones that are longer.

Yep, my plan is to get 96" as the rod we already have up there is at that length, although I'm going to change it a bronze/dark rod.

The bronze rod will work well with your leather sectional. Did you eliminate the fabric which had red flowers in it? I thought that had great promise.

Unfortunately I did. There wasn't enough fabric for 4 panels, as it is discontinued. Not to mention it was overpriced.

I love the Ballard Designs Firenze curtains.

Barbie, those are the ones I will get i think. I love the cream/brown and they will pop against the darker couch and soften the room. We should be getting the rug next week as well so that'll help. :)

You can spray paint the current rod a bronze or Espresso color.

that's a great idea! it's quite heavy and thick, though. not sure if the tabs will even fit the rod we have. i do think it's beautiful, though. a bit more traditional.

While the current rod can be painted, you would do better to have a wider rod which would allow the end panels to be off the glass. In this width, you may need to special order, or work with a window fashions professional who can locate a pole in the width you need.

Masterworks is correct. I forgot that you need a longer rod. You will probably need 2 rods that are attached in the center and a center bracket for support. A diamond pattern like this looks terrific in pleated panels. It flows nicely over the folds, and gives you a flowing geometry at the window. Is the russet red a color you want to develop in the room? Because the embroidery is probably rayon, you will want to have lining on the panels. Unlined, the rayon will break down from exposure to the sun.

You have been given loads of good advice and help here. One thing I want to mention is that the renderings that have been shared with you show nice full curtains panels. The images you have shared from West Elm etc are not near as full or plush--which is fine if that is what you like, but they are not going to look like the panels in the renderings.
If you were my client, I'd be recommending 1.5 widths of fabric for each of the 4 panels. Length is not the only consideration.

My feeling is that 4 panels would spoil the room completely, the room is quite modern and the fashion of split panels has long gone. Why not consider a pair of curtains in a light brown with a top border is a darker brown, and with antique brass eyelet heading.

I want to echo the pros strongly, in saying that to get a great look for these curtains, custom-made is mandatory, given you have a large living room window that can and should be a major dramatic and decorative focus for your room. Pre-made panels are never the right size and often hang poorly, with wrinkles and puckering as previously noted. Manufacturers feel forced to skimp on cut, fabric, fullness, headers, lining, hems, construction, and detailing. Whenever you see great-looking curtains on Houzz, they are invariably custom.

They're I'm speaking as an amateur who has bought and thrown away plenty of fabric and has also successfully made her own curtains many times, as well as bought custom.

A new rod is also needed for a great look.

I echo sobergs advice. I had my drapes custom made and the look and the way they hang are so beautiful. I did spend some money having them made I won't lie but I am so happy with the way that they look and it was a great investment for me. I do not change my color scheme every time a new color trend comes around either so for me the drapes will be staying for a long time.

The additional attention of a local professional will be well worth any savings you may get online--not to mention better quality. An online source may be less expensive and you may like the look of what you get, but a local pro would most likely be able to point out all the short cuts and custom details you did not get for your money. **Not intending to slam online sources, but those are just the simple facts. You may also be pleasantly surprised at the affordability of custom.

I have to disagree with Made to Measure Curtains - there is nothing about four panels which will be outdated with the right fabric and pole. Four panels soften the wall, and allow you to focus on the view, not the geometry of the windows in the wall, which is quite strong. For a very modern client, the choice might be different, because that client would want to focus on the window geometry.
I do agree with JMittman Designs - you have a local professional who has given you great advice, and I'm sure Inspired Spaces could be a great help to you.
With ready made curtains, you don't often get the right fullness, they aren't always the same size from package to package, and getting a pole the right size and strength is critical, and problematic on your own. Saving money only to find it doesn't look right is no savings. A professional is motivated to help you with a solution which you will love, not just one which is tolerable. That's the better value.

Yes, the room is contemporary but my stule is more transitional I would say. The room needs a softness that panels can provide.

The room is more transitional than modern, given the details on the built-ins, and mantel. With the right fabric and hardware, plus some pillows to pull things together, your space will feel more like home for you. It's not uncommon for the window treatments of one owner to not work for the next one.... And even when they are custom, sometimes only one width of fabric is used and it looks a little skimpy, which is what I think happened on the end panels on your window. When you extend the pole, and make the panel in the right fullness, and colors you prefer, everything will look much better.

Window treatment is needed. Panels must go to floor. Measure down from top of rod for right length , they come 84, 96 so on. Make them fuller yours are not full enough if you have to buy more than one set, do it. The add a bamboo shade in dark brown. (Home Depot carries ) to each window, so you would need 3. Measure outside of window to get right size. I would go a color block, or a stripe.panel. Bed,Bath n beyond has some nice ones. Take color from wall plus a accent color. With your walls a gold with a brown stripe would work or a rust, with wall color. Then add those colors to your sofa in pillows. Mix it up with size. A throw in same would work, hang so over back. Add accessories in a accent color to mantel and end tables in same color just a couple.

Table in corner serve no purpose and looks strange. Add a big potted palm to bare corners instead. A round coffee table in glass would work better, with a sectional. Rug, is fine take colors from that for panels. Ok to mix prints. As long as in same color range.

On wall behind sofa add a big 40" art with lots of color. Or a big sky line of New York, Ikea has some nice ones not expensive. Hang very low 30" from floor, center on wall.

Looks like you have a bar. Add bar stools in a woven look if you don't already have them. Nice room. Just needs a little help.

I would add panels to middle parts of wall too. So 4 all together. Still do bamboo. Also use a dark wood rod instead of gold. You may have to lower to get right heights.

Adding a drum. Style chandler, instead of fan would help.

Mount rods closer to the ceiling. The current drapes are OK, add some shades.

I agree rod should extend pass window by 7-10" to fill that wall more. Buy enough panels to do that. You do not Ned to put rings on them. They won't be closing. Then pull up blinds to hide behind bamboo which you keep rolled 1/2 way up.

Put that one end table next to sofa, add tall pots and plants to them. Ck TJMax, Pier One for ideas. Room look unfinished now.

If those panels were custom, someone got ripped off. The gold rod is dated too.
