I think I'd consider painting the vanity a metallic color (subtle, not too shiny) and a large print (graphic) wallpaper. Love the light fixture. It seems you love a bit of glam but want to "anchor" it w the black counter. Hint: use a glass wax on the counter after install to prevent water spots!

Are you keeping the floor tile? If so, I would be careful of mixing floor and wall tile patterns that are close, but not the same color and style value. I like the idea of grounding the black counter top with a darker vanity. It will also make the light fixtures "pop" a bit more.

Are you re-tiling the shower with this tile? Is this travertine?

Janeannrob - can you hive some photo ideas of the type of metallic color for the vanity as well as wallpaper design ideas. I'm thinking though I don't have that much wall space for it to show well. Here is a photo of my granite choice. Never heard of a glass wax. Where do I find that?

Capozzi and Cat- yes I'm keeping the floor tile and extending the same tile around tub/up wall/shower. Here's photo of my tile used similarly. It is porcelain.

Was thinking I need to address issue of paint or wall covering before fixture installed so I don't get paint on it. Will be difficult I think to take all the crystals down afterwards.

It's nice to see someone deflect from the thinking that all kitchens must have upper cabinetry.
I have designed in Hawaii where the wall plane is more conducive to light and ventilation above the counter top. Upper cabinets give off a too heavy, claustrophobic effect. Some open, well placed shelving, (if needed), but more emphasis on drawer space at base is efficient. I've found....the more cabinetry you provide, the more reason to fill it. Often never needed...
Same thinking applies to floor square footages, number of doors, and partitions, etc.....the more rooms and space that is provided for those who feel it must be filled, (to the perimeter), with furniture. It amazes me how much space is ill conceived in Western culture. How often have you entered a home only to see that 30 to 40% of the space is really used....the rest is a "stage setting". Of course this doesn't make Ethan Allan or home builders too enthused!

An added comment: Different lighting can go a long way. Think of using a smaller mirror, and one on the opposite wall as well. I would not go for painting the cabinets. Natural wood always looks better than painted. You might want to go with a lighter tile on the floors.
