It all sounds really dark to me. Do you have pictures of the samples?

We looked at coffee brown (and 100 other granites) when redoing our kitchen. We have maple cabinets in a chestnut stain with chocolate glaze (think cinnamon with chocolate glaze). We ended up going with Colonial Gold granite. Depending on how much light you get (we have a north facing kitchen with two windows) the coffee brown could get too dark. If you have a lot of natural light then it would be a very striking combination. If you can get a sample bring it home and look at it for a couple of days and nights. That way you can see how it looks in different types of light. Also, paint colors on the wall, color of flooring, etc. would have an effect on whether the room is too dark or not.

Oh, I have natural cherry cabinets and I was thinking more of that color. I should have realized yours were dark when you said chestnut stain. With those cabinets and those floors, personally, I would choose a very light colored granite. It's a very nice kitchen, but I do think a light counter and backsplash would provide some nice contrast to the darker shades.

You will get a very different look with a dark countertop (like the 4th picture I attached, but note they have light colored floors) but it could look a bit dark and dreary, especially if it's not a very, very bright kitchen. If you do go with a dark countertop, I'd certainly choose a very light backsplash. I actually like the second picture with the very white countertop.

Thank you all very much for your input. I am still looking at granite. It is a very large kitchen with a lot of natural light. There is space for a breakfast room and a hearth/keeping room as well. There are two large double windows and two single windows and a door with a window. Therefore lots of light. Thanks so much for the input!

I am leaning towards coffee brown now. Not the one that goes towards orangey in it but the one that has true browns in it. It is not as dark as black pearl. Now I am trying to decide on edging. They are giving a great price on 2cm ogee edging everywhere but I sum nervous as I have heard of it not being as shiny on the edges and uncomfortable on elbows at the island. Also, trying to figure out if I shoukd do eased edge on countertops and ogee on island only or all ogee ... Do confusing! Each granite place tells me different things about seams and edges! Also, any thoughts on island shape. The asked if unwanted the bar area rounded! Thank you all so much for any help and pictures!!!

Just ordered coffee brown granite for my bathroom and my friend told me to reconsider, she had it in her kitchen and hated it because everything showed up on it, especially water spots. But I went with it anyway!!
