the stairs look great!!! how was it done? also how did you make the baseboards offset? love the design

Here's a section through a typical tread. The initial frame of the stairs were built off-site (stringers and treads). The stud walls on either side were sculpted to accept the embedded stringers. A second laminte tread was then added to the first tread for added thickness. The laminated treads were then clad in a hardwood

This seems like a brilliant approach to creating a code meeting tread height. Was this approach more cost effective than an entirely hardwood thicker tread? What is the hardwood species cladding? Thanks.

Hi there. I just came across this explanation above. I see that you had embedded stringers in the walls. How did you go about attaching the treads to the stringers?

Hi Christopher - The Tread and Stringers were assembled off-site so it arrived as one (heavy) piece. Can't recall how they were actually attached but i'm certain they used dado techniques, glues etc.
