Downdraft Vent Option under 400 CFM?

We are getting ready to purchase our appliances and are hitting a wall for venting options for our island cooktop. Sears is about to have a large kenmore sale and so we are hoping to purchase a fridge, cooktop, wall oven, and dishwasher this weekend. However, all i see for downdraft options are the built-in kind vs. pop-up. All of those are over 400 CFM. We are hoping to avoid added venting costs by staying under 400 CFM. My questions are:
a. can we purchase the kenmore cooktop we like and purchase a pop-up vent separately?
b. can someone recommend a cooptop that would match our kenmore appliances that has the pop-up vent that is under 400 CFM?
Any help is greatly appreciated. The sale is only for a few days so we need to order these appliances ASAP.

ecseems: how did you resolve your issue? I am going through the same thing right now. Too costly to put in a hood. What did you end up doing?

Hi Janicemc...we wound up with the Jenn-Air 4 burner cooktop ( http://jennair.com/appliances/details/JGD3430BS)...they make a 5 burner as well. In doing the research for downdraft units Jenn-Air holds the most current patient and the other companies purchase their old patients to make their models...so in theory Jenn-Air holds the latest and greatest in that technology. The flame still gets pulled towards the downdraft but we barely use it and when we do it's fine when on low. It's a sleek looking cooktop. They also make a full cooktop/oven combo and that was super nice but we wanted wall-mounted oven/microwave combo. Hope that helps! (happy to share a photo as well...i'm at work right now...just let me know).

Oh...and I should add that based on code we had to get it vented properly.

Right. I have looked at the Jenn-Air. It's rated 425 cfm which means we would have to add in the cost of ventilation as well. The cooktop/oven combo works (rated 350 cfm) but I am not thrilled with the look of it in the Island. Would rather have a sleeker look. We may end up with a gas/downdraft Kitchen Aid cooktop rated 350 cfm. Or, we are thinking of induction, but I still think we need ventilation per code. I hardly use the downdraft in my current set-up. Maybe a telescoping down-draft? This all came about because I am trying to fit in an extra oven, but may end up with a double wall oven and the microwave under the counter in the Island. Not ideal, but that second oven has been a problem to fit in without making everything look a little off. And the cfm rating has really limited our choices. Thanks for your feedback. Yeah...we couldn't get by and get the look with the 400 and lower...so we had to buck up and pay. Granted...we are super pleased with results. Good luck...I know it will all come together and when your project is over you will forget what had to give!
