Hi. I think you have nobody to please but yourself -- there aren't a lot of colours that wouldn't work with the grey of your walls. So what you need is to explore until you see something that makes you happy. Here are three possibilities to start with. Let me know if you'd like me to do one with any other colour you're thinking of. (I like the yellow -- a creamy yellow, not a supermarket ad.)

how about strong espresso? brown/black

A glossy black would look great. Or even something in one of the orange/red tones

Chartereuse would look nice, or an espresso brown as alanna mentioned.

I think a dark brown, black, or white would look good.

What is happening with the two front areas that are now covered with something white? Is that not the stone? Will you be painting those areas?

RED! I think a pop of red would look great against the rest of your color scheme. It is a little "barn-ish", so if you are not into that bright of a color, I would recommend a soft blue.

Go black with silver hardware. It's the only color that will go with the color of your house and will stand out too.

I am thinking a strong espresso with black mulch in the garden area at the front of the house. The two sections not finished will be stucco.. Stucco - Close to the stone colour?

If you like the espresso, the darkest shade of it will be the best choice, and bold chrome hardware will make it pop out. A much lighter shade of the stone color for the two sections will add dimension to your entry.

Here's a look at an espresso door -- I like it. I'm sorry I didn't finish painting the stucco -- time's short this morning.

In the door there is a very simple design with black beading around the glass design. So really think the black in the design on the door, black door, and black mulch keeps it simple. I can add white flowers in the garden. Starting to realize I like things simple. The setting is in the woods and is very quiet and peaceful want to house to blend with the setting.

Hi. Here's black -- though I'm not sure you'll see a lot of difference in the pic when I upload it. But on my screen it's a lot crisper looking than the brown. I use an old version of Microsoft Paint, which is quite simple software but one can learn to do various things with it.

This with a white garden should be lovely.

A few factors might help to narrow your choice.
It depends on what your interior furnishings might be.
It helps to integrate the interiors and the colors inside because when your door is open it will be a nice flow with the door color.
Landscaping and flowers can also help to create a flow with the entire curb appeal situation.
I think either using the same color as the garage door, which would be a more sophisticated and subtle presentation or a dark brown/espresso might be a nice color with a similar dark brown/black coloration on accent lighting and accessories.
This also keeps the color neutral so there will be little conflict with the interior furnishings.

I think a dark espresso would really enhance and compliment the rest of the house.

Alannah, not sure if black mulch is the best idea. It actually looks pretty scary once laid down.

Have you seen it? I have. I can tell you it was very unpleasant. It had the look of spooky Holloween, which is fine but only for Holloween. Not for all year round.

If you really want to see how it looks, I ask you to consider buying one bag first, spreading it out and seeing if you achieve the look you THINK you're going to acheive.

And I'll be honest, I'm a girl who loves black. However not in this case.

I'm not sure what black mulch is, other than a recycled product. As a gardener in the Pacific NW, we have a couple of natural choices..."orange" toned Douglas fir, or "dark" Hemlock. The dark Hemlock (really more of a chocolate tone) is my choice as the color stays true longer, and splinters from digging/walking around in it are not an issue. As you asked about "colour", and from the house style, I'm assuming you are in Canada, where wood products are commonly used as mulch.

The house is truly stunning already, choose a color that suits you and suits the house that is as equally stunning.
Personally I like nwduck's suggestion on the chocolate tone for the mulch, that and a chocolate door color to match.

For what it's worth, I would do a black glossy door with two black glossy pots on the entry area and plant annuals which are bright or small evergreen ( box, privet) with under planting. Your home is elegant.

SInce your home is a cool neutral tone, and the style is very traditional, I agree that a classic color is best. The one that will be the most beautiful with your stone is a sort of raisin brown with purple undertones. . . test sw plum brown or sw bitter chocolate . . . congratulations on your lovely new home.

Thank you for all the comments appreciate you taking the time to share with me. The colour (yes, I'm Canadian, by Lake Erie - Colour not color- ) is almost black but called strong espresso. The mulch in the garden is not black but a dark brown. I will try one bag and see what it looks like, good suggestion. New Leaf was commenting on the interior which I sense the exterior speaks very loudy what the interior should be. It will be very traditional again, hardwood floors, crown moulding, claw foot bath/marble in bathrooms etc. My next challenge will be the stucco on the outside of the house.

No, I'm further south of Toronto on Lake Erie. However Lake Simcoe is prime cottage area and beautiful. Some movie stars have cottages up there, due to the privacy they can enjoy.

@alannah I agree with "Colour". When I moved to the U.S. 25 years ago and met my husband, the subject came up and he told me that in America they spell it "Color" and I was shocked. But then I got used to it :)

I also think a black door and I would suggest that you up the style of the garage door by adding some black hardware like handles and hinges that can be found for such applications. These would be cosmetic only. Also, a chunky black porch light and chunky black coach type lights flanking the garage door. As for landscaping, a variety that adds visual interest in a number of seasons.

I would go with a classic look for that a architectural style. Black is classic and timeless. I would also add black accents in the form of potted plants, maybe a decorative black scroll work, bird bath, etc. When introducing a new color into a space be sure to use the rule of three. You must use the color in the space three separate ways.

Thank you Emerson for your insights, so agree with the grey/taupe stone, then the stucco being a second colour to the mix. Black would be the finishing touch. What do you mean by " you must use the colour in the space three separate ways"?

How about brown wood door in an orange or red undertone to it.
