Our little 107-year-old house is a work in progress. We moved into our "forever / retirement home" on February 5, 2010. It feels like we've conquered several projects, until we look at the list for the upcoming year!

Ambitious project schedule for 2014:
1. Exterior #1: Roof -- brown shingles; Siding -- lemon yellow. Scope of Work: House and detached garage. Details: [a.] Black shutters will be removed and not replaced, and [b.] White wrought iron flower boxes below windows.
2. Exterior/Interior #2 -- Update remaining exterior doors (3) and windows (2) to Energy Star Rated.
3. Exterior #3 -- [a.] Backyard privacy fence, and [b.] begin landscaping.
4. Interior -- renovating kitchen -- [a.] demo the original cabinets, and [b.] install Maple Amish.

My backyard needs a major overhaul but its a big and very expensive project so I think I'm going to start slowly and give myself time and see how far I get on my own. Guess it can't hurt to try and if not call in the pros.

We are finishing up a HUGE project (gutted the entire 3rd floor, put in a bathroom, master bedroom with barn door, sitting area, bamboo floors, multiple ceiling fans, central air...whew!). Our next project on the list is to the build a headboard with attached side tables, hidden storage and wire it for lighting as well as an upholstered section... To fit under the roofline of the house so my 6'4 husband can sit and stand comfortably.

We will be painting the entire inside and outside of a home we bought last April 210 miles north of us. We completely remodeled the kitchen and had the hardwood floors refinished and now we can concentrate on decorating. Then we will tackle the bathroom and do a total remodel. Finally, if all goes according to plan, we will be able to enjoy going up there without projects hanging over us.

Oh no! Now I have to admit it!! The walls in our kitchen, master bedroom and hallway have not been painted in 17 years! You heard me correctly... 17 years!!! Needless to say, they NEED it. I know paint is an inexpensive fix, however, my husband has been out of work for 3-1/2 years, I have a chronic illness which prohibits me from working and any extra expense has had to be put on the VERY back burner. I asked him just the other day, if we could go to the return/wrong color paint area and just get some kind of neutral ,inexpensive paint to help these walls. He said, "We'll see." Yay! Maybe we will get it done!!

Moving from 1300 sq to 700 flat in London. Will be downsizing!

Finishing our house is the main goal. But chopping that into smaller projects my first one will be finishing the window frames&trim in our living room. We insulated from within, so the window frame needs to be wider. After installing and painting those, the walls and ceiling need to be painted, since they were recently plastered. Will be spending christmas in an empty room for the third time, last year we finished the second floor and the year before we stripped the entire house. 2014 will be our year. Can't wait to have some furniture in again!

Will all of the above do? I purchased a 1900 fixer upper about a year ago. I have a new roof, gutters, insulation, some windows and plumbing, and all new electric lights - about 50. No the house isn't huge. It just has a lot of lights. All new appliances - there weren't any. My pride and joy - the wood floors were all refinished - gorgeous! Storage is about the only thing I don't need - it's a craftsman with a million cabinets (well it seems that way), since I have to replace all of the cabinet knobs, because I'm allergic to copper and brass. There are about 200 knobs. The wooden cabinets need refinishing - oh, my! The chimneys need sealing and repair, that has never been done, according to the mason. The leak around the chimney in the garage finished storage room has turned to mold. The cedar siding needs staining and the trim painting. The porch floor needs refinishing. The lack of gutters eroded the dirt from under the patio, which needs to be somethinged, along with the very weedy driveway which is 1/2 concrete. Haven't gone there yet. When they added modern electric, they removed some of the tile from the backsplash in the kitchen and bathrooms. I can't seem to match the tiles, so I'll have to remove and replace them. I think they last painted the interior in the 80s. The kitchen faucet either provides burning hot water or ice cold. The pipes froze with the cold spell last week. Turns out there was about a 2" space on the pipe between different types of insulation - now foamed. I hope that works! The former owner thought digging up all of the plants in the yard was reasonable, as well as selling the sliding closet doors (who would want strange sized doors?), the light fixtures, appliances, and anything else detachable. So besides filling in the holes in the yard with plants, I need to fill in missing house parts. To add insult to injury, the 17 year old heat pump has informed me that it wants to retire. No running water and no heat last week! Happily, the heat pump came back from the grave and the water is running, for now. Wish me luck, though I admit I'm having fun!

I always seem to have projects to do so this was a hard one for me. I really would like a cabinet to go around our wallmount flat screen TV. I guess maybe that could be listed as creating more storage so it would hide all the DVD's and electrical components as well as giving that wall some added interest.

My husband and I just purchased a vacation home on an island accessible only by boat. The entire house needs some sort of reno from a new deck to some new windows, a complete paint job and landscaping. The difficulty lies in getting all the materials over to the house and all the debris back to the mainland. We are very excited about our new adventure and can't wait to get to the decorating part....Any ideas on paint colors for our summer getaway?? We hope to have it all completed for Memorial Day weekend so we can enjoy this summer. Would love any and all suggestions for interior decorating. Happy Holidays to all!!

My bedroom needs updating. I love the wall color but I am having trouble finding bedding that will compliment. I love the title Sherwin Williams "contented". I want to incorporate a paper that I found on Houzz from Home Depot WC 1282627. The Houzz pic is better. It was an office located in a closet.

My husband and I will update our lower level/main bathroom. We are DIYers and hopefully our marriage won't be compromised when decisions have to be made and the work starts!

My husband & I have updated our patio with a fantastic pergola - a division fence that separates the step of the patio from the pool area will be our next spring-time project. Currently the divider is 18 years old & it's spindle-look is severely out-dated compared to the contemporary flavor of our home and out-door spaces. B & I have different ideas, 90% of the time we agree- the other 10% make for very interesting conversations! I would love to see& hear others ideas for a 4 foot high divider fence that compliments a pool/patio deck with modern style-

We will be redoing our main bath and bringing the 1957 (80's redo) into 21st century. New everything is planned. Since our 1957 home is a traditional type home there is no master, so redoing the main bath to be our master and guest bath is our goal.

We just purchased a new home... Much smaller than we have now. Storage is going to be key into making our new home work. Creativity is the key. The kids rooms and the loft area of the home will need storage for sure.

You should have had an "all of the above" choice - that would be me - mostly, though I want to rip out a wall and expand my living space!

We are in the process of opening up our bedroom closet. It tucked behind a wall, and was hard to get to clothes ( see photo). Not sure about what lighting to use. Painting inside a BM revere pewter greige color. Customizing with a Allen Roth closet organizer. Should I add a double sliding door, or leave it open??

I have purchased a foreclosure home and spent tons to date on the exterior and main and upper interior floors. I am now working on the basement and want to finish this off in an appropriate fashion but have now run short of funds due to the extensive makeover. I need to install a bedroom, bathroom and the rest of the 1700 square feet will be left to ideas your site provides. This is a blank canvas ready for some great artistry!!!

Want to prepare and paint an old wooden table. The odds and ends of chairs will be painted white. The kitchen is white with oak cabinets :c I am thinking of a slate grey or gunmetal for the table with metallic around the outer edge, just for something 'outside the box' I would appreciate some input about the colour. Floor is maple.

New-to-us home, ten years old, with master painted a very dark muddy grey, like wet cement. I think we have selected the color for this room. We will be consulting with a pro on the colors for the rest of the home.

We are doing pretty much everything. We just bought a foreclosure house. We have currently ripped out the entire kitchen (including the drywall), continued the wood floors into the kitchen, ripped out the tile in the bathroom and replaced w/classic white subway tile (was 4x4 white w/gold sparkles), have to replace both the front and patio doors, replace the garage door and paint the entire house (walls, ceilings and trim). We have a lot of work to do in 2014!! : )

On budget aren't we all!? Updating an out of date kitchen. This will be a diy project. Thats ok. I often become more creative when funds are limited. Like signing up for freebies. Fingers and toes crossed :)

If by "other" you meant "nearly all of the above and then some" then "other" it is! This year the master bath phase one was finished (refinish cabinets, new vanity top, fixtures and mirror, pint walls and trim). And kitchen phase one has just been completed (refinish cabinets, have floor resealed and paint the walls and trim. Hanging new mirror in powder room will complete that entirely (refinish cabinets, paint walls and trim, new vanity top and fixtures,)

Next is kitchen phase two (new gas cooktop, sink and either granite or quartz countertops, then replace ventilating fan, wall oven, microwave and dishwasher). Pull out basket shelving in pantry to better make use of the space.

Then, tear up carpet in living room and dining room, and install hardwood.

THEN, tear up carpet on stairs and second floor and replace, and replace dated balusters and spindles on stairs and between kitchen and family room with simple wrought iron.

Master bath phase two is to take out nasty fiberglass tub and put in large stand up shower with a bench. Hall bath will get newer, deeper, nicer tub, and new paint and the cabinets refinished.

Anywhere in the house that hasn't already had the trim painted already will have it painted. My office, attached to our bedroom, will get a much needed coat of paint, as well.

Outside, we need gutters on the front of the house, the ground has washed away in places under the top of the driveway, so that will be the first order of business in spring.

We are planning to sell sometime in 2015 or 16, and move to our retirement home (near, I hope, our grandchild in Italy) so we'd better get cracking!

We plan to replace the siding on our house in 2014. We hope to use a vinyl shake shingle, color still tbd. As one thing leads to another, I expect that once it is done, we will want to then replace the front door, and possibly the garage doors so that they are updated as well. Also "included" in this project is replacing a couple sliding glass doors with single doors or windows. We'll also need to stain the decks to coordinate with the new siding, and paint the exterior window trim. Finally, when all of that is done, a little bit of landscaping to complete the look. Plus new gutters.

I need a new roof, vinyl siding and a deck. All big ticket items this year.

A newly constructed home that we moved into with three young kids. Needless to say, the matte white walls have got to go! So inbetween, schooling, cleaning, and cooking, I'm painting!

I need to remodel my whole house...

I plan to create a craft/sewing room out of one of the seldom used bedrooms. The walls will need new paint, some of the furniture will be repurposed for storage and we need to build more storage into the closet and on the walls above the work spaces. An island with base cabinets would be great too. One problem though, we need to keep a twin bed for sleep-overs. At least I can put storage under the bed. I just hope the room isn't too crowded when I'm finished.

My top priority is to replace drywall and a small portion of laminate wood floor in my basement that was damaged due to a leak in a basement wall. I have had the wall repaired and have been holding off to make sure that there is no more water.

My home is a colonial that was built in the seventies and in desperate need of remodeling. I am planning on updating 2 bathrooms with new tile, vanities and fixtures. The current tile and countertops are white with gold flecks. Ugly. The cabinets are white laminate and the doors keep coming off.

The next project is to replace the kitchen countertops and backsplash. The cabinets are white and were updated within the past ten years. The countertops are an unusual shade of green with blue tint. Very difficult to decorate. I'd like to either make it more neutral or go bold.

We plan to do some "age in place" modifications - lighting and door knobs, as well as adding pull-out drawers in the kitchen and renovating a bathroom (if the money holds out!) We started a list last night!

There's definitely some painting to do in '14... Also replace baseboards and add other decorative mouldings (crown, maybe panels). Change some door handles (actual door replacement may be DIY or contracted out, not sure yet). Maybe tile work and cabinet portion of bath reno...

We are going to insulate our exterior walls! And our attic! Our home was built with no insulation. Plus we will be stripping the trim and repainting it. Then repainting a few rooms! Got a great idea here for my bathroom! It is black and white and I have always hated it and painted color on the upper walls. Now I want to paint the ceiling black and hang an elegant black and white wallpaper. Think it is time to embrace the black and white!

These don't need some fancy "industry" star rating to be efficient. You have bought into the myth, just like far too many others.

My 1916 bungalow has all the original doors & windows & after reglazing several windows & adding new copper (comes in other metals as well) weatherstripping, my place is tight as ever & cozy as can be.

PLEASE...once you rip these out, they are gone...the historical features of this home can never be replaced...ever. Many families were there before you & will be there after you as well.

Refinish my wood floors and finally get furniture for two rooms.

1) Custom draperies and Roman shades by me. 2) Arrange & Display collections- old Asian hats in family room. 3)Find fabulous fabric to frame as art throughout the house.

changing the carpets in a few rooms,,, right now we are remodeling the kitchen,,,, huge project!!!

We will be painting the remodeled back entry room which my husband is finishing to be a gallery for my paintings and painting the room between that and my studio which was our old kitchen.

Will attempt to stain glass my sidelights at the front door. Removed the frosted glass panels before Thanksgiving and boarded the openings up.....The Holidays have come and gone, hope to get back to the project! The glass is purchased and all other supplies as well, this will be my first attempt at stain glass!! Wish me well. I must add, I'm a picture framer for 30+ years now, so I've cut allot of glass and worked with allot of colour, I'm thinking I have a fair shot at a decent outcome!
