Sorry, the last two pictures are the before. The first two pictures are the after, taken at the same angle. I'll see if I can come up with a floor plan.

What exactly do you mean “warm it up?” Do you just want to do small changes like change the paint in the room or do you want to do more like add some granite or tiles. And how much are you trying to spend? That way I could give you a better idea of what you should do.

I think it looks very good. The only thing that I do not personally care for are those flowers on top of the mirrors. I think they are distracting and a bit childish. Everything else is so nice they just don't belong (sorry)

Wow, you're lucky to have a talented husband! Painting it dark would be beautiful, and really not too big of a job. Maybe continue the crown moulding from the cabinet on the left around the room. If the stone is still available, you could do a back splash around the sinks and adjoining walls.

decals, not so good.

The thing is to make it look uncluttered, and with all that storage, you're mostly there. (I like the sconces, too -- the light is more flattering from the side than from the top.) Just picking a great, simple wall color would give it the finishing touch. I agree with Maria -- dark could be awesome.

LOL! I agree about the decals. They're coming down. I need ideas for small changes that won't cost a lot. We were going to do granite tops, but it just wasn't in the budget. He still needs to finish the backsplash. He ran out of the solid surface material. It comes in 12 ft. sections. We've got another bathroom to do, so we'll use the same material and finish the backsplash.

Backs splash is going to really make a difference! Get sample color, paint large swatches on different walls throughout, live with swatches, pick color that works best after seeing it with different light throughout day and night.....

It really is very nice. I agree that a darker wall color to contrast with the lighter tile/counter/cabinets would make you happy. Your husband's work is amazing. Please post again when you have made your changes.

You could ask your husband to make frames for the mirrors. That can be done pretty easily with trim. that would give you another layer. Or even replace with oval mirrors. I also think the sconces are a little cold and you could pick new light fixtures and a lot of times that can really change the look of the room. Something with a warm tone in the glass.
The cabinets are gorgeous.

I like the idea of frames around the mirrors. I also like the wallpaper sjawhad posted, but my husband would not be happy if I covered his new texture. The previous owner had done a faux finish around the tub that had sand in it! It was like sandpaper. He replaced all the drywall and textured. I could do a color wash over the existing color to darken it. Is faux finishing out?

First off, your husband did a great job! Your cabinets are beautiful. I think you are on to something with your paint color. Your tile is very nice, but I think another wall color might bring out the woodwork (which I think is the star of this bathroom). I would go with a darker color and maybe change two things. (the bath pictured has BM Norwich Brown)



I would put more contemporary hardware on your cabinets and add a large and dramatic piece of artwork on the wall of your tub. I do agree the decals should probably go. If you want something up there, crown moulding would be nice.

Since your husband is good at tiling, I'd add a wide border of tile (all the way to top of the mirrors) at the ceiling above the vanity cabinetry. I'd also change the sconces to something not as prominent. Maybe add a luggage-style towel rack above the tub, rather than the shadow boxes. And coordinated towels.

If pared down to the bone, these four are pretty boring, blah, beige baths. I think you can easily pick out the items that give them a bit of style and kick. Just do the same with yours!

Definitely remove the decals over the mirrors. If it's an option, I would either replace the mirrors with beautifully framed mirrors or diy frame them. The wall color in your picture looks a little on the peach side, if you use a slightly darker color with more red than yellow undertones, it could help warming the space up.

Try framing the mirrors -there is a website that offers just that, or you could add moulding yourself . Frankly I would paint the room a contrasting color on the "cool" side. Possibly a shade of green. Warm colors seldom look good with mid tone wood.

Side lights are the preferred light for actually seeing you face as the do not cast the shadows.

I do like those sconces for putting my makeup on in the morning. And, they're halogen, so they really wake you up!

I didn't think of something other than beige tones for the walls. I almost painted my living room SW Gateway Gray, but decided to go lighter. It's a greenish gray. That might provide the contrast I need and make the mirrors stand out more.

I agree with everyone ....your husband is very talented! I see a greyish green in the tilework around the tub....more of an earthtone. I would suggest you get an interior decorator to come over with the paint deck of colours and you can view some of the many colours available, using the light in your bathroom. The better quality paint stores usually have professional decorators on staff who are willing to come out to your house and give you some ideas. I did this because they have a trained eye and are often less conservative when it comes to choosing colour. I finally painted my house with real colour on the advice of the interior decorator from the paint store. It was hard at first because I wasn't used to painting with deep earth tones and once I lived with the colour, i never looked back. I think if you can find a colour that you love and it makes you feel good about the space you're in, then you have been successful. Trust the professionals for their opinion and then decide what you and your hubby can live with. :)

Hi. I think your cabinetry and everything looks great. I'm distracted by the mirrors and scones over the vanity. I would remove the double mirrors and the middle sconce, and put one framed mirror running the length of the vanity to tie it all together, hanging at the same height the mirrors are at now. I would replace the scones and paint the walls a darker color. You have. Great start, it just needs to be more tied together, and the paint and single mirror would do that.

I'd also remove the decals.

I think the mirror was right in the before pics except it needed to be a tiny bit smaller and framed. The frame will balance it all out. Get a frame that matches the colour of the bathroom drawers etc.. If you could add a wooden framed false ceiling above the vanity area with spotlights rather than sconces or change the ones you have, they don't seem to match.

Thank you for all of the great suggestions. I like the idea of one large mirror; however, there is an outlet between the mirrors that I can't cover up. I think I'm going to start with the least expensive change, paint. Then I might replace the mirrors with framed ones that are taller. I have removed the decals. :-)

I agree with frames for mirrors. I like decals but think for the redo, I wouldremove and make the mirror frames more interesting. I personally like the red of your towel with the colour of your cabinets. I'd add more red. That would be my preference.

However, for more more sophisticated look, the neutral & earthtones others are suggesting will look nice.

Regarding the outlet - you can have them cut a hole in the mirror for the outlet. We have a bathroom in our cottage that has two lights mounted right on the large mirror, one on either side of the two sinks.

The middle scone is too big.
