A light sand or taupe background with a darker brown design in a greek key design would allow light in. The greek key design would echo the block shapes on yoir rug. You could go darker with the background and design if you want a room darkening look. You could also go the opposite color scheme with a dark taupe/sand background with an ikat design in the lighter color. Stay away from florals. They would be too busy with the rug design. The pillows on your sofa look light green and yellow/gold? You might hold one of them next to your rug to see if the green works too. I like those pillows!
