Aha! Great question. We wanted the look of a back-painted backsplash but there was no budget for this. So rather than pay thousands extra for this detail, we decided to use the 'charcoal' side-panels - the same kitchen cabinet material you see on the kitchen island - as the back-splash. This matches the same surface of the white high-gloss kitchen cabinetry. Best of all it was a fraction of the cost of using glass.
