Stucco repair or replace

This exterior is in bad condition. Do I repair or replace with vinyl or some other surface. Currently to resurface with more stucco I am looking at $20,000.00 cdn. Any ideas???

it's hard to tell from the picture if the stucco is too old to repair but I would try to restore it. There are speciaty companies that can do this for you at a much lower price and you won't run the risk of affecting the interior walls by taking down or going over the existing stucco. You would lose a lot of the charm of the house if you went with a vinyl or even a hardi product I think this house really needs stucco. if the stucco can be restored and sealed it would probably be cheaper than even siding over the house

Sweet house and I like the stucco. Have you priced siding and have you looked into James Hardie brand?

You have a beautiful home. Love the setting. I would stay original and re stucco. Think siding would change the facade too much. Know it's expensive. Make sure you get a company that has a top notch reputation.

Your home is so pretty. I love the pop of blue on your door. I hope you can swing the stucco as it looks beautiful as is.

I agree that the stucco is would be truer to the original exterior.
If you do go with siding, you don't have to have vinyl to be durable. There is a product out there called Hardi board, which is made with sawdust and cement. It looks a lot like wood but doesn't need repainting as often. Search houz for lots of examples.

Love the design of your house! I too would try to stick with the stucco to be true to the origins of the house. Have you gotten estimates from more than one company (sticking with those that come well recommended)?

Love your house! The stucco would look great redone, however the price is high. If you decide on siding, a 3" white lap board vinyl siding would give it a " Cape Cod" look and with the amount of large windows, door position and fireplace brick you have breaking up large expanses of wall, there would be very little noticeable joins, giving it the look of wood lap siding often used in the period of your house. If you do go with this option, I would get a very reputable company to install the project.
