From what I can see of your paint color black would look great but I think Margo is right, we really need to see the whole house including the roof to give an informed opinion.

Agree black would be a good choice for your doors, but reserve the right to change my mind after we see the whole front!

I think black would make your recessed entry seem dark and uninviting. I like the current color, but how about something brighter to liven things up? I agree it would be easier to offer an opinion with a pic of the front of your house.

I'm thinking you could come up with a more interesting and welcoming color for your front door. Of course it matters what the front of the house looks like but here are a few options.

See, now I vote against black, the door is in a recessed area and it will make it darker. I would opt for a cherry light color;)

I suggest the tone in your brick, especially for your climate.

-- Black would be ok - but it is common. For a little bit more sophistication, choose a deep, deep color. It will read black from the street but be a nice surprise up close and personal. You can choose a deep version of a color that is in your interior. Kind of an intro to what you have going on inside.

Another idea would be to match the color of the grout in your step. Pull that neutral up to eye level. Will not impact the palette inside as other colors would. This door is the first impression visitors have of your home and it should work well into the overall inside/outside mix.

Hang a large metal wall sculpture on the wall to the left in the photo and plant some larger flowers. Or, install a trellis with climbing, flowering vines on it. That area looks a little hungry.

I have to go with iamjudy's light brick color, but my second choice would be the dark plum leelee suggested. Both would be beautiful!

Black front doors are great! I just did mine last summer with black shutters and new wrought iron lighting! Lots of complements.
