I can only find LED "Ropes" here about 1/2' dia. and not sure of the output. Any thoughts??

Rope lighting is a little difficult to work with for cove lighting- You'll find that LED strips (like the ones above and below) will give you a more even distribution of light. You'll want to go with a strip with lower light output, since you only want a nice glow for your cove lighting and nothing that is too overpowering.
