That said..I would keep the cabinets as is, change the rest of the room. The room looks cold, but that is not because of the cabinet color. Add patterned (with colors) roman shades to the top of each of the window panels. Add a large rug with color in front of the sink. Change the upholstery to something brighter & lighter on the bar stools. Paint the walls a color with more punch. Change out the lights over the island to something larger and more interesting. A few interesting colorful objects on counter top. It's not the cabinets that are a problem..it's the lack of a good complete room design.

I agree with the other responses. I like the dark cabinets. If you wanted to change anything, how about the pendant lights? Maybe something with sparkle/crystal or a different color?

Agree with everyone who likes the brown. You have a beautiful kit. Brown works with floor, lights, bar stools and granite.

However, should you go ahead with lightening up the cabinets, here are a few things to remember. These cabinets usually come with a factory clear top coat which has to be sanded, wiped down to remove dust layer, then primed with a transitional primer. I would suggest Safecoat non-voc transitional primer. You can then top coat with a regular top finish in a eggshell or higher. Again I would use AFM Safecoat or American Pride. A spray coat will be a finer finish( no brush marks), but will be more expense.
However, personally, I like the way they are.

Pay a professional. I had mine done, and it is worth the money to have them prep, paint, and clean up. They have the equipment to do everything quickly. I have done cabinets myself in the past, and it takes forever when you don't have access to professional equipment and helpers.

I love the way the color looks as is. I have painted dark stained cabinets before and is a not the best idea. They chip always. I recommend to my clients to they to leave them be and find other alternatives to change the look of the room.

Ditto. The cabinets are beautiful. I'd make other changes. But if you really, really want white, hire a professional to paint. Maybe the new products work better and last longer, but, once a lady chastised me for saying hire a professional because she has successfully painted her kitchen cabinets "four or five" times already. My point! Who wants to repaint their kitchen cabinets so often! But, I'm not familiar with Rustoleum and I hear it is great, with pro results.

I have painted cabinets, and it is a big undertaking. Unless you have the room to stage this and kind of make a production line, it will be hard (like a garage). Here is my recommendation: paint the upper cabinets and leave the base cabinets alone. This is a contemporary look, but one which I think will stand the test of time, plus it will brighten it up while keeping the rich look of the dark color (and cost half as much to have done!) I also think it would look nice with all the granite. I would NOT use an actual white on the upper cabinets, but rather the lightest color in the granite - you can go a shade or two lighter than that, but it's important to keep the color in the same family to make it look cohesive.

I agree the cabinets look great but if you want to change them hire a pro it will make your life easier on the rustoleum product that is a fifty fifty I've seen it come out very bad and others ok

Your kitchen looks beautiful as it is! I think the color of the cabinets looks great with the existing granite and floors. If you do decide to paint the cabinets, be sure to pick a color that works with the existing granite and flooring, so that you don't create a domino affect-of having to change everything. And definitely, hire a pro to paint. They will take your cabinet doors off and spay paint them to create a professional finish. Good luck.
