Well, those chairs are not exactly comfortable looking. Maybe a fun color leather type with higher backs would be more inviting. Look in grandin road or home decorators online. Maybe a lighter color in the wall would make it look less cavelike too.

Ok- start by freshening up the back wall. This wall needs some depth- which may not mean dark blue. Maybe a pattern Wallcoverings brighter color and printed window curtains. I am guessing you avoid it because the room lacks warmth/friendly furnishings. The layout and finishes are fine- lighting could improve. I can see two hanging fixtures over the island. A great centerpiece or collection of canisters on the island. Need to finish the kitchen with some soft windows, artwork, accessories and varied levels of light. You are so close- the structure is good! Hang in there, get a designer to help you for a few hours and you will have a showplace!
