we will be getting the front paved at some point in time as well and as you can see its all gravel infront what's your thoughts about the front should we pave right infront of our home to or remove the gravel and seed grass? we have lived here for 8 years now and i still can't come up with any ideals to make this house better looking either beefing up the columns with cedar wood? can't put shutters up since the rock is almost up against the windows =( ugh just have no clue haha i love the look of cedar and natural things which is why i love this rock

Wood door will add some character and personality to the exterior, along with some landscaping as mentioned.

Paint garage as Keok2131 says and do beef up the posts , definitely do not pave in front of the house, please seed and add landscaping to give your house a less commercial look. get a landscapers help , most nurseries will advise you on design if you buy from their stocks. Paint your front door and moulding of that door a deep red, (burgundy) . Centre your wreath , in fact, get a bigger one , changing them , themed per season. This will give a fantastic look to your house. Enjoy !

If you have the budget and can access more of the stone like the garage portion, you might try giving your home a Craftsman style makeover with stone support bases for the beefed up posts and some trim. Right now, it is just a mid-America builder's standard issue, so you'll have to invest in styling it yourself.

Paint the door RED! paint is cheap and with the neutral colors of the house red will pop! Red is a good feng shui color for an entry brings all the good energy into the house and lets people know where the entry is and that it is important. You can un paint it back or still buy a new door. I'd also paint the garage doors as well as the siding the beige of the house. I love the idea of making your posts larger. I'd love something architectural in the peak above the front door but adding it to the siding etc maybe expensive, maybe a large metal barn star in the space to fill the void.

You can get glass insert installed. When you decide your style.. Craftsman contemporary traditional ....they come in all styles cost about 500 dollars but worth the investment in sunlight and curb appeal. Colors again depending on you style dark plum aubergine or muted blue

If you do get a door with glass make sure it is rectangular and not 1/2 circle etc. And no etching. It needs not to look in anyway cutesy.

Instead of painting the garage trim keep it white like the rest of the trim- it's trim after all. But do paint the doors themselves the siding color. This will tie the house together and balance it. A bright front door color will make the most difference and take your eye away from the double garage doors. Red is a great idea. Make sure and use a high gloss finish. Alkyd paint is best for this because it is really glossy. That gloss makes all the difference. Two hours work will change your home incredibly.

Here is an idea based on earlier suggestions from Deco and others.....I think adding incorporating these elements into your elevation will bring the stone and other stylistic elements together well. Happy Houzzing.

These are all great ideas! I agree with red door, beefing up the posts, painting around the garage doors & landscaping. Use the pictures deco posted as a guide. The landscaping looks nice without being too much. If you really need to make a turn around parking spot in front of the house, leave a large area against the house for landscaping & a sidewalk or nice stepping stones.

Another thing about deco's pics is the wide window trim. It really makes the windows stand out.

Add a simple door like this in red:
http://houzz.com/photos/1920933 Paint garage doors same as siding so they aren't focal point, beef up columns, add landscaping and grass. Also put the two chairs together on either side with a side table in between. Planter in between garage doors is too small.
