Great room help

Hi there,
Justin and I will be moving into our first home Febuary 3rd, 2014 in Barrie. It is a new construction and we are having trouble figuring out what furniture to buy and how to lay it out in the great room. The room is long and narrow and there is only one wall to work with. Not sure if we should put the TV on that wall or the couch.

I have attached the floor plan and dimensions for you to have a look at. We have no furniture yet only a 46" TV! Our kitchen will be white cabinets, with grey/charcoal tile and warm medium stain hardwood will be in the great room. We have been looking at ikea for furniture and thinking a sectional might be best. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

What about builing something against the kitchen island to place/hang the tv?
The only picture I could find with a similar construction is the one below. Pillars for sturdyness and a cabinet for media and tv, sectional along the long wall. Hope it makes sense. :)

A sofa and two chairs are more flexible for arranging and rearranging. Then there's the bi-sectional sofa where the chaise can reverse from side to side. Comes in loft/apt size which you should consider. How do you plan to use the 'formal' room? Seems redundant to have two living areas in such a small space. Maybe you could use the smaller square footage for a 4-chair/ottoman or coffee table arrangement in front of the TV and the other area for a traditional seating. Swivel chairs would be flexible for turning to TV or back to conversation or a scrabble game!

The formal room will be used as my dining room.
Another thing I forgot to mention is we extended the countertop where the sink and dishwasher is to make a breakfast bar with 2 stools.

HI -- I think having the breakfast bar is going to cause you space problems and is really not needed because you have kitchen seating . Your space is too narrow and you would be limiting yourself .
