How high should a television be above the fire place?

    Don't put the tv over the fireplace. Smoke and soot from the fireplace will coat the inside of the glass screen, making the picture blurry. Placing the tv high on the wall, you could get stiff neck.

      The height of the TV in the picture looks appropriate. B o b raises points that need to be considered for using the TV.

      Great question.
      What type of firebox is this? It appears to be open to the other side?
      The television does appear to be sufficiently high enough to be protected from the heat that the firebox generates, but different fireboxes give off differing amounts of heat. If this is not a wood burning firebox then there will be no soot.

      I'm not convinced the fireplace is used as a fireplace. To me, it looks like the library/den is added on, the door openings may have been block and/or windows. The "fireplace" appears to be open to both rooms, but I think is there for aesthetics. If it is real, I agree with Bob -- a TV shouldn't be above it ,subjected to soot and extra heat. Electronics last longer in clean, cool locations.
