Thanks! But I was looking for a color to make the room have a different feel than the rest of the house. There is a tray ceiling too that I could work with.

What about a darker, analogous golden color on the walls (nice in candlelight), keeping paneling/chair rail white. Tray ceiling could be painted a soft green or blue for interest -otherwise stay white.

If you are really trying to change the look of the room, although we cannot see the rest of the style throughout your home, you might want to try a light icy gray. It looks beautiful against the dark furniture and will give your room a more updated look since the grays are so hot right now. The rug would have to change. Check out a more graphic pattern in gray and white. It balances well with the traditional elements in your room while giving the room a fresh feel.

Hmmmm. Never thought of a color like that. That might look nice too. So you wouldn't go a light gray/blue tone and change the carpet? Looking for the room color to pop.

Or, how about going darker, with a rich dark blue such as Farrow & Ball Hague Blue, which is REALLY dark. The rest of our house down stairs is all the same color minus the living room which is a gray/green color. Our kitchen which is on the other side of the wall has dark cabinets, tan back splash and granite browns. I love the gray tones, but am unsure if it will look ok with the sand blast color? Should we paint the tray ceiling gray too? What color would you suggest for a light icy gray? Of course my phone just died and I can't get a picture of the rest of the house for you lol!

You could go a medium tone of gray and let the graphics of the area rug do the talking! Maybe if it is in your budget you could choose 2 new chairs for the head and foot of the table in a gray, white and 3rd color print for additional pop.

I think the gray and sand blast (which appears to be on the yellow side) would look great together. Grays can be tricky so remember to get a sample and put it on your wall.

Got pictures. We don't have those area rugs either anymore. Pictures of house when we first moved in.

Wow! Mark, can you do a gray just to see what it looks like. Is that an app? That is pretty cool! I'm such a visual person I can't decide on anything till I see it like that lol!

They sell little sample tins, luckily, although they'll mail you their colour books for free. Another hint I've read here is to paint your test colours on some sheets of bristol board, then you can move them around and look at them at different times of the day, and they're not "arguing" with the colour you're hoping to replace.
