Need help with ideas to update front porch

I would like to update my front porch. I don't like the columns or anything much about it really. I was thinking of painting the cement porch and would like to do a light lime wash on the brick to take some of the harshness away from the red brick. Is there anything I can do to replace the columns or make them more modern?
