Please suggest Kitchen Layout changes

We would like to make our kitchen island the central gathering place and having a breakfast area between family room and island seems to ruin the openness. So, one idea I have is to make island much square and reduce the length a little to fit rectangular table 82" X 42" near the deck door area. Any suggestions for better layout changes? We can't move doors and or windows at this time. Also, plan is to move the sink from island to counter towards wall.

I am confused by the question? Do you want to decrease the island, add a table, and have the island be a gather space?

My first thought is to keep the island width, but add to the depth so that you have a breakfast bar. If you like the idea of a wooden table, perhaps you could add a "live edge" wood counter or butcher block to the current island, essentially doubling the depth over all.

I want reduce the width by a feet and increase depth by couple of feet. I feel reducing length will make the area near mudroom more specious to put breakfast table.

It doesnt look like there would be enough room in the 2nd photo to put a big table and chairs

Use a room planner to see how much walking space you are left with after you put in the table chairs and stools.

I would take off another 2-3' from the top portion of the island to give plenty of walking space around the table and through the doorways.

If you want the desk area, you could movd the sink down and put the cooktop in the island.

Found a beautiful designed two level island here on houzz. Decided to go with that style and forget about using our breakfast table. Maybe, get a small round one and put near the deck door. Will get the depth of high level part of island extended by two more feet and make it look like this one.
