Is this a "smooth lap" siding by Hardie, or their "cedarmill" woodgrain-look siding? I am having to decide between the two and trying to find examples of the woodgrain. I know it's a tough question that can probably only be answered by the builder/owner...but thought I would give it a shot. Also trying to figure out if there are benefits/disadvantages of going with one over the other.

This is smooth, with metal corners to create a mitered look. I would recommend visiting a local lumber store to see both products in person before you decide. We have installed far more of the smooth than cedarmill. I am not aware of any differences in performance--it really is an aesthetic decision. But if you go with the metal corners instead of corner boards, you would want to use the smooth, unless you can find corners that come in a wood grain finish. Thanks for inquiring! Please let me know what product you are using? How do you get no seams using the hardy board? I am getting my home resided and Hardie is the choice... Would appreciate the advice very much...

@tobin1, when you say seams ,are you talking about the small gaps where the boards come together? You need those gaps because the material expands and contracts. This photo just happens to be of an area where all of the boards are less than 12' (the length Hardi lap siding comes in) and we didn't need to butt any boards together. This is the standard Hardiplank siding with smooth finish. If I didn't answer your question, please ask again with more specifics.

Was this Colorplus or did you paint it? Do you recommend prepainted or painting after install? In processof deciding ... Also, would you mind telling me the color of the darker accent color? Love this house!

We have never used Colorplus, and always paint Hardi siding in place after install. The accent color is Ben Moore Newburg Green HC-158.

I would say that if you have the choice between a simulated wood grain and smooth go for smooth! Wood grain in the hardi-siding doesn't usually look authentic. I would recommend embracing the material for what it is.

Very nice work Ventana! What metal mitered corners do you use? Looks seamless in the pic. I also really like that green.

I don't think we have a record of the exact size, but should be somewhere around 4-5".

Not putting corner boards creates a seamless clean curb appeal. There are different manufacturers but I would recommend using a product that is at least 1/2" thick in order to create a tight beveled angle.
