Have you started looking at other houses in your area, or spoken to a real estate agent? That might give you a feel for what the market commands. Where I live, the wall paper would not increase value, but rather probably decrease it because it would be viewed as "dated" and not a neutral.

Not to stifle the child's sense of decor but this year she will be into hot pink and next into leopard. It's the age that, what is cool, is what your friends have. Colors get old fast and trends change at the drop of a hat. 11 year old girls are fickle creatures. I would ask her if she would be happy with that room if she were 22 and see if you can stall her :) Or at least guide her to meet you somewhere in the decorating as it is your home.

On the other hand. She has grown up in a very traditional room and is looking to alter that. Your little girl is asserting herself as a young adult. Perhaps you can make that room into a guest room and find a better place in the house to allow her to have her self expression. Probably time for a double bed or sleepover daybed anyway.

Your amazing toile wallpaper is classic, not dated. But it is taste specific. I can understand why you wouldn't want to change it. At the same time, you can't expect your buyer to love it like you do. I wouldn't not buy your home because of it.

And please don't start negotiating with your 'tween' over redecorating now vs. later. This is a grown-up decision. You two can work together on her new room when you move.

I will admit I almost didn't buy my new home because of the wallpaper. All 2300 square foot of ivy from top to bottom. It was awful !! But I've since stripped the wallpaper and painted walls . Lots of fun as you can imagine . In our area the realtors tell us to get rid of wallpaper .

You might be able to fabric the walls in some way. We went through this at our house years ago. We changed rooms & I painted the new one black with white furniture & hot pink accents. My daughter has her own place now & still loves black & white although her walls are not black. :-) She's 25 with a 2 year old. Yes, the nursery is black & white & hot pink.

Thank you all. Great suggestions from everyone. I agree that it's best to make our final decision about moving before doing any redecorating. Our house was already on the market and the realtor loved the girl's room as is (it also has custom matching drapery) so no issues there. The room was consistent with the decor of the traditionally decorated home. Part of this is mother's guilt because she has always loved pink and I thought she would outgrow it at the time that I chose the blue and yellow. She has not, nor have I learned to love it. So, we either move, move her to the guest room, or redo the room. Thank you all again.
