Love your sofa, coffee table, and large artwork. If money is no object, I would remove everything else and try and go a little more contemporary. New lamps, new rug (maybe a sisal with a cowhide on top and two more contemporary chairs.


However, if you live in the "real" world like me, money is an issue. BTW,,,,,I'm going to be 52 this year and I need a new hair style as well. :)

Molly, you have some great furniture pieces. I think your club chairs could work but consider getting some large 24"sq. pillows along with 18" pillows in a more contemporary design for your sectional. If you want a cozy feel the seating area is too far away from the fireplace. Can you arrange the conversation area around the fireplace and center the black cabinet along the long wall with some of your terrific paintings hung on each side?........from a 62yr old Tennessee girl :-)

Get a larger rug. Consider selecting one that incorporates the chair color.
Remove the red toss pillows on the couch and replace with the pillows currently on the chairs.

Love your wooden "flying girl" on the floor. Put it on a stand and if possible, in a more prominent location.

Move the Asian rose pattern bowl to a new location.

Though a bit small, I like your coffee table, so would keep for the time being. Consider draping the wooden table between the chair to introduce some more color/pattern/interest to the room. Of course, top with a glass round because we do LIVE in our houses, don't we? If it helps, I'll be 54 in 2 weeks!

Would be curious to know what is opposite the windows. Meanwhile, the coral chairs and hassock, as well as the rug, could move down to the FP. The chairs could angle or face each other over the hassock. Add a small tray or a teal throw to the hassock and teal/coral lumbar pillows to the chairs. Center the china/display under the vent and pull the sofa forward to float in the center of the room aligned with the chairs and FP and turned to face the view out the windows. Put it on a new, larger rug, and change out the pillows for some more teal and coral ones.

Here's another great way to inject more coral into your space Molly - keep the cream sectional - just tweak your area rug, accessories and drapery. Gorgeous!

I think if you change out the peach seats for white (same color as your couch), it'll make a huge difference. The pastel is throwing off your color scheme of white with colorful accents.

Keep that great wall art, the sectional and the coffee table. Nothing else.

First and foremost, you have great taste, you've chosen timeless styles, if you aren't looking to replace everything I would suggest getting a new area rug, artwork and recovering the armchairs in a fresh, patterned fabric or updating them all together. Sometimes it works out to be the same in terms of cost. Changing those three items could have a big impact on your living room.

Your sofa is great and neutral so it allows you to have a lot of options when introducing new pieces to your space. If you are looking to update your space with a few new pieces, here are a few from Bryght that I think would really compliment your sofa and bookshelf.
I would even consider getting a larger coffee table, I think your current coffee table gets lost in the carpet and doesn't have a strong impact being that it is made of glass and metal.

WOW! groveraxle, you have done it again...terrific room for a "new" woman.

Your paintings are wonderful!. you are lucky to have such a nice big room to work on. It looks like you are well on your way. Grover has worked his/her magic and wow what a great space already!. I like the idea of the little chairs flanking the fireplace too.

If possible I would move sofa opposite wall so I could see outside better. I would get bright colored lamp to set between chairs. Lastly I would use that beautiful rug elsewhere in home and get new area rug with coral and bright blue, green, or some other standout color. Toss pillows on couch to compliment new rug, and maybe a piece or two of bright highlight on display case would make beautiful changes.

It occurs to me that what I might need really is self confidence! If I look at the room, it looks timid. No bold strokes...like my art has. The rug peeks out, but doesn't stand out. No risks. Even the pillows. That has been my life recently! Hmm décor IS really about the soul....

Now you're talkin', Molly. Your art is wonderful and should be the inspiration for the room. Make it so!

I also agree with a rearrangement of furniture, BTW. Make the fireplace and the windows into your second and third focal points, right after you showcase your art.

I took Marie's quiz above - neat tool! It said country, then I did some thinking about me and what I REALLY like. I think I'll call it Contemporary Country! I'm not American Flag Country, or English Country. I THINK I need to warm up my space with wood or wicker pieces, add some florals and contemporary rug, display my sculptures, finally unpack my family photos. And enjoy the woods out my fabulous windows!

I want to and have tape all over the floor now trying to figure out how. Sigh. The room isn't simple. But I HAVE to make it work....grrrrr... 9' tall x 15' wide of windows! The only way is to put tv over lame gas fireplace. Is that bad? see pic.

It is directly to the left of the fireplace and where all the cable plugs are.
Arranging the furniture to see it would mean placing furniture facing away from view like it is now. BUT, I think I did it. But the TV will have to go above the fireplace, this is another problem for another day

What if you moved the TV to the end wall, flipped the sectional and the red chairs, and made a small seating area by the fireplace? Moving cable connections isn't that big a deal. There are guys who do it every day.

I'm with everyone else...I love your dancing, flying ladies!!! Do you ever sell your art?

Sell them? Well, 15 years ago I used to sell wall sculptures made of the same material to stores, at shows, custom stuff, here and there. It was a blast, but then I stopped, got divorced, got busy working, raising kids, just starting up again with a new attitude, new husband, new house, kids in college! I could never make any real money at it because each piece is hand done and not moldable. I would sell them for the love of it and I just might start again if I can't find a job!
