i find there are too many elements that catch the eye that shouldn't. Also, with the windows you have why not make the color brighter and cheerier. The walls could be a bright yellow, or all white with a hot orange focus wall, whatever turns you on. I would paint out all of the wood surfaces to match the wall. Then put up curtains on the windows made of a fabulous print. Take the couloir from the print. It is a bathroom/laundry room so why not have fun with it. I don't think changing the floor is in your budget, but a bright, fun rug might be good. If you have IKEA near you, they always have some lighthearted rugs. Lastly, I would cut down the number of small decorations in favor of one or two large statement pieces.
