Not necessarily. The ceiling can be either a good place for light to bounce (and so painted white) or it can be an important opportunity for establishing the architecture of the room (and so treated in a way that differs from the surrounding walls - coffers, trusses, t&g, etc.)

But yes, many people will suggest a lighter version of the wall color - say 25% - to give it the light as HERE Design points out - while at the same time has a relation to the walls.

Try using a glossy paint on the ceiling. It really reflects the light well! I used a semi-gloss on mine and I love it! But then I don't believe in flat paint - Yes, I know other people love it. If semi-gloss is too much for you, try a satin or eggshell. Whether you go with white or the same color as your walls, it will differentiate the ceiling. Good luck! - Gretchen

Wow! MS Colours - I love that! And at least I know I'm not crazy! In my area, people think flat paint is the only way to go, or maybe eggshell for the "shiny" look. Great job!
