2 bachelors need help redesigning a shared living room

2 bachelor males share a 2 floor corner apartment and are looking to make some upgrades/redesigns/rearrangements to give it a better over all feel, and perhaps make the space more conducive to hosting other people for gatherings.

I'm open to all suggestions about what to replace, what to add, how to arrange the space. We'd like to add in a space for a small table and chairs that can serve as a 'dining area'.

can you take one more picture,please,of the wall with the stairs..have you tried moving the furniture around?is there enough room along the stairwall for the settee?then maybe a table where the settee is now??

The perfect place for a table is where you have the mini fridge. No other place for the mini? Love the kitchen color, is it terra cotta? I see you have mini blinds but they are meh, how about some bamboo blinds for a little texture, would look great in the kitchen too. Look around at outlet stores and such for inexpensive ones. Do you have an ikea near? They have a neat red metal locker tv console some color in that room would pump up the volume,so to speak. Good luck!

I would say to move the TV over more to the right and put a small bistro or dining table and chairs right there in front of the window. Also, there's a lot of space going to waste behind the sofa. You should have it facing the tv. It's ok if your guest see the back of the sofa. They're seeing it now. If you did that, it will allow more room for upholstered chairs to be perpendicular to the sofa. Think of a square. Within that square, you will place your sofa, chairs and one little side tables between each sofa corner and chair (that equals 2) . Get rid of the coffee table. It's old school and obstructive to your path. Use two small square ottoman's instead (they're multipurpose, great for extra seating). They usually have nice ones at Homegoods. Definitely warm the room up with bamboo or wood blinds. Add some colorful or Black pillows to the sofa (home goods). Go to Ikea or consignment store for a more sophisticated tv stand to bring it up to speed with the TV (up to date). Definitely, find someplace else to place the tall lamps or upgrade the shades (nice ones at home goods). Let's start there and see how it looks. Everything is visual when it comes to decorating. You may later decided to add a sofa table behind the sofa with the new arrangement and put a table lamp on it along with artificial hanging plant to hide the back of sofa. I wish you luck with your decorating. Hopefully, you will take heed to some of my advice :)
