I think once you update the lighting and ceiling fan, take down the fussy old window coverings, remove the rail from your loft area wall, change the carpet, update the kitchen countertops & appliances and get some color on the walls, your place will look much better.

Thanks you. What about the parquet flooring? Do you think it should be replace with hardward? It is throughout the kitchen and first floor.

LOVE the dark oak wood. Once you remove the fabrics, curtains, brass, replace appliances, and update with color, you'll be amazed at how updated it will be! Great bones!

I agree - take down the fussy curtains and liven the space up with some colorful contemporary accessories and you'll have a great start. The 'bones' of the space are great!

A warm paint tone, taupey....to complement the grass cloth and dark wood, would be a good start. Although the attached photo has painted trim, the paint tone would work just as well with the dark wood you are working with. Taking samples cards and holding them to the grass cloth and picking a color already represented in it will work well. Grass cloth shades, or nubby woven feeling window treatments on the lower windows at the sides of the fireplace would create cohesion, too, as you also have a warm taupe represented in the marble fireplace surround This type of paint color looks great with espresso colored furniture and "lively" art and accessories. Adding a tile splash and new counters will also add interest to your deep oak kitchen.

Dark parquet flooring looks more updated. As with other suggestions, painting the walls a warm color to compliment you trim work would make the entire condo more welcoming.

I agree with most of the above, get rid of the curtains, update ceiling fan and lighting and either paint the walls a stone/taupe color or atrium white, shift the living room into neutral/monochromatic colors. and parquet floors in good condition are priceless. The grasscloth wallpaper is actually coming back into style! Add vibrant organic artwork to accent it... I think you'll be surprised at just changing out lighting and counters how much good you can do!

You condo is great with all the vaulted ceilings and warm, unpainted wood trims which feels very inviting. Not sure where the photo is taken in the first photo, but I could see that as a study area. The carpet actually looks like they are in good condition and I wouldn't be changing them. I hope the curtains didn't come with condo!

In the first picture, it would be great to get rid of the half wall and add a railing treatment there to open up the space. Also adding hardwood floors in this area would do wonders to visually open the space and make it look larger. Grass cloth is coming back and it's BIG! so I would work with it. A large impactful light fixture at the top of the stairs would do wonders. In the kitchen, I would also suggest a new floor and some color in the backsplash and paint colors

The parquet floors are classic and classy whether they're "in" or not. Is it possible to refinish them? The kitchen does need help -- a complete do-over. What style depends on your taste - modern, Tuscan, contemporary?

I agree that replacing the loft half-wall would open up the space. Is it bedroom or office? TV Room? Hardwood laminate floors with rugs.

All that woodwork needs different colored walls to make it all blend instead of being so stark. Taupes, olives, warm buffs, browns, blues (navy?), with pops of color (what's your favorite?)

The wood baseboards are not attractive. It's too much of a good thing. Consider painting that to match the walls.

Thanks for the ideas.......pretty much along my line of thinking. Still not sure about the parquet wood floors. Would like to take the carpet out of the dining room and put in hardwood flooring in dining room down the hall into the master bedroom suite. These floors would intersect with the parquet wood foyer and kitchen. I think it all needs to be the same for continuity.

Not sure about painting the baseboards. Maybe adding additional trim to make them larger with more detail?

YES, I am always for removing carpet and adding hard surfaces! IF you do that, and can afford, I would make the kitchen floors either MATCH, or Change to a nice porcelain tile for clean and durability. (Not a fan of real wood floors in a kitchen personally) When we did a total redo like this in '08, we removed the small baseboards as well, and replaced with 6-8" wide painted baseboards. We left the lower baseboards only in bedroom spaces only, but painted them. Turned out MUCH better!
