HI -- Actually engineered floors are more stable than full hardwoods , less warping and cupping and better with climate changing because it is on a sable base. Have a look around at the flooring shops to see bigger samples . You cannot go wrong with walnut ,it's timeless . Wide boards is a good look but the hand scraped I don't care for -- I think it is a passing trend . I also prefer the smooth finish .

Be sure to look at the wear rating of engineered hardwoods. Some of the veneers are very thin and scratch easily. I installed some in my attic and despite taking great pains to baby this flooring, I still have quite a few scratched. I'll touch them up with a marker eventually but still a pain in the butt.

Thx. I'm just surprised over 90% of what I find in the stores and online is very scraped / grainy. I don't think I'm the only one who likes smooth finishes but just don't find much variety of vendors in smooth finishes. Anyone use lumber liquidators?

Smooth finished floors are my favorite floor to make. As mentioned make sure your engineered floor has at least a 4mm wear layer so you can actually refinish it. That being said a domestically produced engineered floor of high quality will cost as much as a good quality solid floor.
