How about painting the lowers a more espresso brown color instead of the gray. Seems it may go better with your granite. And maybe use a grayish blue color for your walls.

another suggestion would be to paint the walls white and paint the ceiling a blue/gray color, with a dark espresso lower cab color.

If you're just looking for something to do...tear out the 4" backsplash made of your granite and repair the drywall.

Add some art that gives your nice kitchen some personality.

Kitchen looks good, as is. Spend your money where it will really make an impact.

How do you feel about the open triangle revealing the stairs? Seems like wasted space that would be better used by closing in and adding more cabinets. All cabinets should go to the ceiling. Replace upper cabinets.

I like both mfoor's last photo and Mark's. Thinking that because the existing white cabinets are factory finish they would be more durable. What about just painting the island a dark brown, leaving the rest white, gray walls? What about if someone gave me Photoshop lessons :-)

I like the stair cutout. The kitchen looks more open and interesting when descending the stairs. I wouldn't want to walk into a room with a cabinet right there blocking the view until you got past the cabinet.

I would not paint the cabinets grey or any two tone combination. I think the white looks great. I like the gray walls Mark showed you. I think I would add something extremely bright or unsuspecting in that unusual triangle you have, make it the focal point;)

I agree about the photo shop directions- you all are fantastic! As for the reason we are painting our cabinetry. The photos I posted do not show it, but the finish on many (especially the lower) is in poor condition. The previous owners were pretty rough on them and there are many spots where the finish is chipped or peeling off. Painting them and the walls (and replacing the ceiling fan) are a temporary fix for a few years before we can reconfigure the space and install new cabinets and fixtures. I agree about the odd triangle cut out- unfortunately that is just not in the scope of the current work to be done.

If we decide to paint the cabinetry in a gray tone (lower) I am thinking that choosing the right gray tone is super important. I am thinking of pulling a gray that is present in the granite as the cabinetry color. I also like the idea of maybe just pulling the gray tone to the small island. Anyone else have thoughts on other shades or colors we should consider for the cabinetry?

Also, anyone have thoughts on new ceiling fixture. No fan needed, but am thinking of maybe a large drum shade?

I LOVE the triangle! You could put a cool piece if artwork on the wall along the staircase, or a fun wallpaper on upper half of stairway wall, that matches the colors you'll use in the kitchen.

Like mforr's idea of painting the walls gray and leaving cabinets white.
