Change the hardware out on your cabinets: here are some blue and green ones:

Paint the warm gray in this room too, replace the hardware with some brushed steel, and then replace the country dining with something contemporary. Curtains or roman shades in the blue and green colors would hep too.

I actually really like the rattan blinds a lot as they carry the cabinet color around the room. Could you see upholstered chairs in your accent color around a simple glass table? It would be a big punch of color!

I would carry the gray into kitchen. Replace the hardware with modern hardware and possibly paint the cabinets white. Replacing the dining set would help, or for a temporary fix paint the chairs a fun green color. I love the wood shades.

Painting above the cabinets where the bulk head is the same color as the cabinets would extend the cabinets to the ceiling. Adding can lights over the counter space would accent your work areas. Maybe an eating island instead of a table. Wall color should be a little darker because the cabinets are light color. Cabinet handles, drapery hardware, lighting fixtures and appliances could all match. Bringing in continuity and a very pleasing effect.

I like the rattan blinds, but you can spiff them up a bit with some simple white curtains on either side of them. When I moved into a house with cabinets that color My husband (an architect) picked a really dark brown. I was scared but it looked really, REALLY good. I think it would work for you because you have the white trim around the windows and the light colored wood. White curtains would brighten it up too.

If it was me I would also replace the chairs with something upholstered. They are too "matchy-matchy" with the cabinets. There are nice ones at Target (or Cost Plus or Ikea depending on what's near you) that are inexpensive and look great.

Could you keep the table but replace the chairs in black? On a budget, you could sell the chairs and find new ones on craigslist or in a consignment store.

Leave the cupcakes and get new table and lighting. If you have time and money hard wood flow or darker tile would also be a good option.

Swap out the dining table and chairs, and add some patterned or colorful rugs that tie in with the decor in the family room.

I had/have the exact dining set. I purchased new upholstered chairs from Target in charcoal for $75 each and it really updated the look.

Well your kitchen has everything that requires to make it fulfilled right from good space to pretty airy one. But what i find lack lustrous is the color of cabinet with the dining, both are not going well with idea of mod kitchen.

I agree with most here. Update the table and chairs. New sleek modern hardware. What is that odd corner without a cabinet? It looks like it's further back then the cabinets. Can you replace that hanging pot rack with open shelving? It will look more uniform.

BTW, shellbell, that table and chairs is about $500 at Ikea; the pendant lights, also Ikea, $30 each.

Since the general consensus is to swap out the table/chairs, I'm looking for new ones. Glass is out since it's not practical for our family. Groveraxle, I see you went with a white/transparent contemporary set. That particular set is not my style but I'm trying to work with that and find something similar. I like this table from Pottery Barn. Maybe the white with a seat cushion to bring in the blue/green? Would black look better or is it too matchy? Or are these too traditional to go with the kitchen style I have?

shellbell, I like that Pottery Barn set and I think either color would look fine. That storage shelf is pretty ingenious (useful in a small kitchen), but will it interfere with knees? Seat cushions to tie in the blue/green would be great. I say, try out the table and if you don't bruise your knees, go for it.
