Patching a hole in a wood beam

We purchased a home that had a chandelier installed through a wooden beam in the living area. We would like to remove the chandelier as it is not positioned correctly in the room, but we will have a hole in the beam. What is the best way to cover or patch the hole that will be aesthetically pleasing? Help!

Most likely you have a build up beam, or a wrap around. Just take the bottom piece of wood off and replace it...paint or stain new wood to match existing, especially if you be doing another hole to re-install your fixture, it will be easier to reroute the wiring, not to mention that you cannot leave wires in the beam cavity anyway.
